Thankfully there are a lot of thriving FBO's at Reid-Hillview Airport, so
I
don't see the airport disappearing because Amelia's closed.
Are there? I know for a fact about at least one other FBO that isn't 100%
sure about its continued operation.
Having said
that, Amelia's is THE 'cornerstone' of the history of the airport. I will
always recall walking off to my lesson (when I was working on my PPL at an
FBO that is cattycorner/across the street from Amelia Reid Aviation) and
watching Amelia heading off to teach an advanced aerobatics lesson with
her
seat cushions in-hand.
My memories of Amelia are of her dancing late into the evening with more
energy than the youngsters, and a bigger smile than anyone could have.
I had been hoping against hope that Robin and Marici could find someone
who
would be willing to keep the FBO open - but I guess not.
I took my tailwheel 'checkride' with Robin - a very nice guy. Kinda strange
making a 747 Captain climb into the back of a Citabria!
