So where in California does one go to learn "self-launch?"
Haven't seen any 2-seat rental motorgliders around...

Minden? Tahoe? Cal City?

Rolf Peterson used to have (and probably still does have) a Grob 109B
that he instructs in and then rents solo out of Livermore, CA. I did
my motorglider transition with Rolf and can highly recommend him.
Rolf's contact info can be obtained from PASCO

http://www.pacificsoaring.org/

where he is very active to all our benefit. (He is responsible for the
fact that Mt. Diablo's wave is often just outside SFO's Class B
airspace. The FAA was going to include it. Some days though, I wish we
had an extra half mile. But a glass half full is better than the empty
one we were going to get before his intervention.)

If you're transitioning to a self-launcher (pop up engine sailplane),
you probably would want some time in a DG505. Rolf used to also
instruct in one at Livermore, but the owner eventually moved it
elsewhere. maybe there are others?

Have you tried contacting (and joining!) ASA, the Auxiliary-powered
Sailplane Association

http://webpages.charter.net/engreenwell/ASA/

They have a link to "Licensing and Training" that might help.

Hope this is of some help.
