All Usenet articles contain a 'References:' header. Within it you
will find the 'Message-ID:' of the messages to which it is a reply as
well as those further up the message thread.

But that does not tell you which specific message is being replied to, just
the messages that are in the thread.

The _last_ Message-ID contained in the References header is the
Message-ID of the article to which that post is in response.
