Default Headwind? What's that...?

Sounds backwards but there were some strong winds yesterday right down

I flew ALB to RDU at 8k - 45 to 50 knots at times with 500fpm lee wave
from PA south. *Lennies visible to at least the high 20s with airliners
reporting "we can't hold altitude precisely, a bit of moderate, just
wanted you to know". *Ground reports at 35knots+ with stonger gusts. *A
little tough to escape on the east coast that day.

I'd like to hear what the airlines were doing MIA to BWI yesterday.

Crossing the Sierras in my Mooney I've encourted 100 knots. Combined
with downdrafts I've actually had a ground speed below 20 knots
confirmed by ATC.
