Default Tiny Tim on the guard frequency 121.5?

Came across a reference in a book written 50 years ago[1] to calling "Tiny
Tim" on 121.5 for assistance from radar stations and direction finding
stations for help in getting on-lost.

Anyone ever heard of that before? When did this usage go away? Anyone
willing to admit to being old enough to recall learning about it? (My
Google searches didn't yield any relevant hits. Just too many tulip hits to
tip-toe through, if you get my drift.)
