Wild turkeys can fly, not very far but they can. While shooting one
Eastern Regionals at Quantico from the 1000 yard line I managed to whack
a crow in flight about 600 yards downrange..........sheer dumb luck, big
puff of feathers and bird bits.


Wild turkeys are *superb* flyers (when threatened, sudden, short
bursts of energy resulting in good climb and high speed not unlike
pheasant or quail).

We always kept our freezer chock full of tasty wild turkey on our
ranch in Northwestern Nebraska. Don't waste your time trying to pluck
their stubborn pinfeathers though -- simply skin 'em and be done with
it.
