Sadly Rear Admiral H.C.N.(Nick) Goodhart died on 9th April of a massive
stroke. *He was a fantastic man - his achievements in gliding and other
aviation fields apart from his many further inventions etc are legion.

In 1955 he won the USA Nationals but being a foreigner (he did marry an
American) he was placed 'One above the National Champion'.

In 1956 he won the world two-seater Championship held in France. *He
represented the United Kingdom seven times and was placed in the first ten
four times. *He was British Champion three times and held many records.

He invented the mirror landing aid for aircraft carriers for which he was
awarded the USA Medal of Merit in 1958. *He designed and built a man
powered aeroplane and many other things, too many to list here.

A truly towering figure in our world, we will be greatly missed.
A full obituary will appear in 'Sailplane & Gliding'. *Do read my
chapter on this great man in the 2nd edition of my book 'A Glider Pilot
Bold...' *It will be available soon for all to read free - google 'Wally
Kahn/BGA e Book Collection' and all will be revealed of a very exciting
poject.

I remember Nick from my teenage years when I was crewing for my father
at Elmira contests. At that time, he was a handsome, dashing
gentleman, the epitome of, in the mind's eye of a boy, a champion
pilot. He and my father were good friends. It's been many, many years,
but I'll never forget him.
