They were conceived to counter a threat that never appeared. It would have
been the beast they would have had to deploy in eastern Canada if the
NAZIs' Amerika bomber had become operational. The RCAF would have needed
radar to support it, but I dare say they would have chewn to bits any bomber
that came to attack anything of use in eastern North America.
