Or, you could put a drill bit the diameter of the rod in the drill
press. Drill into a well clamped piece of wood. Remove the bit. Insert
the rod into the hole you just made. Now the rod is concentric to the
chuck. Almost as accurate as a lathe, and no center-finding required.
