See & Avoid - Bonanzas to Oshkosh by
Jay Honeck
I just had this pointed out to me by a friend, and it's worth noting:
If you're planning on arriving in OSH this coming Saturday, not only
will you miss the fly-in pool party in Iowa City (see:
http://www.alexisparkinn.com/iowa_city_pool_party.htm), but you might
end up in a perpetual hold around...

Houston, You Have a Problem by
Danny Deger
You can download a draft of my book, "Houston, You Have a Problem" from
http://www.dannydeger.net. There are LOTS of good stories on flying the
F-4E. You can also get a copy of my shuttle entry simulation, Deger Dots
from the site. Enjoy.

Ground control vs. clearance delivery for VFR by
B A R R Y
My local Delta base (HFD) will contact nearby BDL TRACON and obtain a
squawk code for VFR flight following or traffic advisories. This
service is "advertised" on the ATIS and is requested from ground
control on initial call up by departures. Ground calls you back with
a code and the proper...

share your air photographs of foreign countries by
Benoit[_2_]
Hello,
It's now possible, in addition to the air photographs of France, to share
your air photographs of foreign countries on www.survoldefrance.fr.
You can submit them via www.survoldefrance.fr/envoi.php
While hoping to see new landscapes on the site, I wish you good flights...

DFW ATC identifying Operational Errors As Pilot Errors? by
Larry Dighera
It's one thing for ATC to issue instructions for the safe operation of
aircraft without suffering exposure to the risk of any lethal
consequences for misdirecting air traffic, but to then blame pilots
for ATC operational errors reveals a cavalier hubris beyond belief:
DFW FUDGING ATC...

What is... by
john smith
Using the Golden Eagle software to plan my route to OSH, the VFR Chart
view depicts a red circle with hash marks inside the circle around
downtown Chicago.
What is this? I can find no information about a TFR for this time period
on that location,

What's on your OSH shopping list? by
Jay Honeck
Ours is:
- Art for our upcoming "Flying Tigers" and "Hawk" suites
- Three new windsocks (ours are all faded)
- A bunch of aviation movies (from that vendor in the Fly Market that
always has all those rare videos)
- Some interior plastic parts for Atlas.
- A new Oshkosh hat
An unusually short list...

Flew to Choteau today to bring a 182 to a friend fighting the fires west
of Augusta. Really smoky from about 100 miles south of Great Falls all
the way to Choteau. I was at 12.5 and the vsby was only about 25-30,
descending west of Great Falls it picked up to 30+. One of the

Grading work at Harris Ranch, CA?? by
Robert M. Gary
When I flew into Harris Ranch today I noticed that they have been
doing extensive grading on both sides of the runway. It makes me
wonder if
a) They are adding a taxiway or widening the runway or
b) Building a bigger parking lot for the semi's that stop and spend
money.
I hope it isn't b.

Learning to fly by
GB
40 years or so ago, I learned to fly, at least a bit. I did some solo
circuits in gliders. I would like to come back to flying, and I was
wondering about whether to learn on powered or unpowered planes?
If I learn on gliders, will this be any help towards getting a PPL? I
apprecaite that it's...

Arriving into MCO (Orlando) by
Peter Clark
Anyone flown a single into Orlando? I'm assuming they use 18R/36L
since both FBOs are adjacant to that runway? Any standard arrival
practices to anticipate? Assume IFR capable if that would help
things.
TIA.

Garmin 296 by

Speaking of the Garmin handhelds I am trying to put in a user waypoint
referenced off a VOR for a couple of Fire TFR's that will affect me
Thursday. It was simple in my 295 but now with the 296 the manual
doesn't say anything about it. Anybody know how to input a user input
that is a radial...
