Wing tie down question by MNLou
I will by flying my LAK17at at contests and camps this summer. I will need to tie out the glider. I am trying to figure out a good way to tie down the wings. With 18m wingtips, the ailerons extend almost to the end of the wingtip. I am concerned about damaging the aileron if I just throw a...

PowerFlarm with FlarmView, I have a question. by [email protected]
Here at Chicago Glider Club we have the dubious distinction of flying right under the approach path into Midway airport. I have looked at SouthWest planes coming through from all angles, including head-on. Flying with a C-mode transponder helps a lot, Approach will guide the big iron around us...

Help finding an article in Soaring Magizine by Tim Taylor
I am looking for an article that was published in Soaring on a study of differences between new and expert cross-country pilots. It was published about 20 years ago but I can't remember the title or author. Tim

Cobra Trailer Wheels by Casey[_2_]
I could not find that Cobra offers aluminum wheels as an upgrade to the steel wheels with hub caps. Is there a European safety reg or something with trailers with aluminum wheels? Seems kind of old school to have steel wheels with hub caps with a nice trailer that cost so much. Does anyone know...

Flarmnet problems on Flarmview by Karl Kunz[_2_]
Just installed a Flarm Core with a Flarmview2 display. Installed the Flarmnet file after running it thru the converter required by LXNav and not getting IDs. My partner also installed the same file on his Flarmview1 with the same result. Is anyone else having this same problem?

Pawnee PA25 Lead (Pb) contamination by [email protected]
Has anyone ever dealt with lead (Pb) issues in the cockpit of a Pawnee? I recently did a 3M lead test on the surfaces in the cockpit and found high lead readings. I suspect it is related to 100LL fumes coming into the cockpit around the floor in fore of the rudder pedals.

Gliding made the Drudge Report both yesterday and today! by [email protected]
Airbus's Perlan 2 project is getting a lot of notice right now with Drudge picking up the story. I am not sure we have ever seen a glider story on one of the largest news sites like this before. Cool! http://screencast.com/t/eUKQQlhNxr29 Bruno - B4

Microsoft Surface 4 as Laptop Replacement for Soaring Pilots? by Papa3[_2_]
Typical of a lot of soaring pilots, I'm swimming in devices these days (Smartphone, Tablet , Work Laptop, Personal Laptop). I'm thinking of doing away with the Kindle and Personal Laptop and switching to a Surface 4. My requirements: - USB Input/Output (file transfers to loggers, Flarm,...

FAA proposes AD on Schempp-Hirth Discus 2 and Ventus 2 by Mark628CA
Proposed AD addresses an issue with the airbrakes on S-H Discus 2a, 2b, 2c, 2ctx and Ventus 2a, 2b. Doesn't look unreasonable- an inspection and possible parts upgrade to address a possible problem with airbrake retraction. Comment period is still...

PEWE Remote Switch Box for Cambridge L-Nav and Gps-Nav by John Carlyle
My "new" 1999 LS8 glider came equipped with a remote stick having 7 push buttons, that control a Cambridge L-Nav and Gps-Nav. The stick buttons go through a PEWE Remote Switch Box, using the typical Cambridge telephone connectors, then outputs go to the L-Nav and Gps-Nav. Unfortunately no manual...

XC Skies out of business? by Mike the Strike
I have received several reports from soaring pilots that XC Skies is not renewing subscriptions, even after payments have been made. Attempts to contact the company by e-mail have been fruitless. The web site appears to be up and functioning, but has not been updated since 2010. Is Xc SKies...

Eric June's accident by [email protected]
I just thought I'd let everyone know in this thread, that Eric passed away in January 2016. I've been trying to find friends, as information has been rather sparce. I'm not precisely sure of the events of his passing, but it appears related to his fight against bipolar and depression. He was a...
