new ground school web app by
[email protected]
I have developed a new web-based application for students doing ground school. The current questions are USA-centric, ,based on the FAA "Glider Flying Handbook" and also the FAA test questions, from which the written test is drawn. Demo account follows:

RC Clarification by
MNLou
I started this question in a new thread in the hope that the answer will be quick and to not divert any of the many other threads on the topic.
The way I read the RC report, the RC said that if FLARM is to be used in a contest, it must be in "Competition" mode. Based on discussion on RAS, I...

Thanks Scott

Labels by
[email protected]
Redoing my panel and looking for label material suggestions. Have used 3M Scotchcal vinyl film and Gerber Quantum marking films in past. Since they are designed for external vinyl signs, the printing holds up very well to UV. The problem is the adhesive. Since some of the labels are only 1/8" x...

Anyone had a winch drum failure? by
Bret Hess
We're making a new winch drum. The flanges on our drum bent out a little when moving from steel to Spectra line.
I'd like to know the dimensions and structure of any drums/flanges that have failed, or shown signs of failing, and with what length and type of line. Please pass this on to anyone...

Spoofing Flarm by
[email protected]
Hi Race Fans, We got tinfoil covered antennas, what other FARTS (Flarm Arms Race Tactics) can we think of? Maybe we can think of a way to spoof our opponents Flarms. C'mon, who'll be first (or maybe someone already has)?

Touring the USA with glider by
Jim White[_3_]
On a whim I said to my long suffering wife that I would like to tour the
USA with my glider, see the sights and enjoy the soaring. Surprisingly she
said that she would come with me!
I have a time budget of 2-3 years but modest financial resources. So
gents...where and what time of year? If I...

New Silver Distance Rules? by
Terry Pitts
All,
I searched for "silver distance" before starting this thread. The top of the list was my own "Silver Distance Denied" thread from last March.
Some of you may recall my attempt at Silver Distance was denied earlier this year. The OO told me that was going to be the case, but I wanted to...

Lift Is Good! by
Greg Delp
I finished another soaring shirt design. Lift Is Good. Almost like the Life Is Good clothing line only way better because it has lift which definitely makes a glider pilot's life better than good. Lots of styles and colors available. Make sure you check out the front and back...

Soaring News Newsletter Available by

Happy New Year!
2015 was a good year for me in my soaring. I had my first contest day win
and my first soaring flight over 800 km. I'm looking forward to the Region
7 Soaring Contest in Albert Lea, MN in May of 2016. I wish the best for
2016 for all my soaring friends.

Trailer seal replacement by
Mark Olinger
Need to replace the seal that runs along the top of the lower half of my clam shell trailer. Current material is an inch wide and was originally a soft, low-profile material that nestled into the grove in the upper half when the trailer is closed. Any ideas appreciated before I delve into the...

We can't agree on the problem, much less the solution. So let me go in a different direction using another sport as the analog.

Riding the wave in an MD-11 by
Gordon Boettger
On a recent leg from the west coast to Memphis (at night of course) playing Santa in a Fedex MD-11, we encountered a nice bounce in the wave crossing the Sangre De Cristo range at FL350. Wave was in the forecast so I got the camera ready as we approached the range. Pretty cool how much energy is...
