K3 sighting by
[email protected]
On my way out to Jean (southbound I-15 out of Las Vegas) Saturday
morning I passed a truck pulling a Cobra trailer with K3 on the
"tail". I was kinda' hoping they'd be stopping at Jean to fly a bit,
but they didn't. Anybody know who it was?

Cross country record: personal shortest flight by
Michael Ash
On the subject of cross country records, I have a new personal best today,
for shortest cross country flight. I landed out a grand total of 4.7 miles
from the airport today. Statute miles. The sky sure looked beautiful but
the lift was deceptively hard to work. I found a wonderful field, larger...

WX says: SW U.S. Deserts/Plateau - Excellent Soaring peaking 07/04-06 by
WaltWX
A large high pressure aloft (500mb) is expanding over the SW U.S.
This typically causes high temperatures (in this case near record max
high temps), a suppressed marine layer and excellent soaring weather
to the Mojave Desert, Owens Valley and Western NV.
On Wed 07/04/07, the 500mb center will be...

Diamond Altitude by Thermal - where to? by
Steve Leonard
I am going to try and get mine in Kansas. Where my
club use to fly is about 1270 feet ASL. I figure if
I go back there with my van, rope, and a crew, auto
tow (so I don't have to bring along a towplane), make
a high speed pass at below 200 feet, then get up and
fly 200 miles to the West, where we...

Magnetic attraction by
Jim Beckman
Ian writes:
In such places it is obviously sensible to keep landing
places in
mind, but I still think it's a mistake to fly directly
over them.
There is a strange magnetic attraction at work ...
The magnetic attraction is made stronger by the visible
presence of another glider (from the...

Glider leaseback contract by
aarnaes
I am entering into a leaseback arrangement a member of my glider club
for the use of my glider. We have agreed to terms and now need some
sort of contract. Do any of you have a template for such an agreement
or can you point me to where I might find one?

Fear of flying cross country by
Jim Beckman
Some of this has been mentioned already, but let me
review the advantages of soaring cross country in a
1-26 (at least when you're getting started:
- The 1-26 is about the easiest glider available to
land in a small field
- The 1-26 is probably one of the safest gliders to
be in if something goes...

fires at Tahoe by
Matt Herron Jr.
I am thinking of going up to Airsailing this weekend for some XC
paractice. Does anyone have any info on the impact the fires are
having in the area? Visibility, TFRs? (extra thermals???) Friday
looks windy, but the weekend looks OK according to NOAA
