Different aircraft design. by bizguy
I apologize if this is too far off topic as this is not a homebuilt for sure. Useful for education. It is interesting in the design and efficiency of operation. I am surprised that it has not made the commercial market place with our increasing fuel...

AV gas prices by Stuart & Kathryn Fields
Well it has happened. Local 100LL is $5.60/ gal and is not expected to decrease. Is there anyone out there using Supreme MoGas in a Lycoming 0320 with 8.5:1 compression? If so what ignition timing changes were needed if any? thanks Stu Fields

Got a problem with my wooden spar. by Lou
I was working on one wing when the other wing (and I'm guessing) vibrated of the supports onto the concrete. It broke the end rib which I will have to build a new one. but it also broke one of the two 3/4 x 3/4 parts for the rear spar 12" from the end. Any ideas on how to fix this? I'm thinking...

Can not possibly afford a hanger and can not find a shelter so my plane will have to sit out. Is a fabric covered plane an absolute no-no? What can be done?

O$hko$h bye-bye by [email protected]
Having attended Oshkosh for the last 35 years without fail, Jim Weir's recent message that he'd have to miss this one due to rising fuel costs, was an item of conversation last Sunday at our Irregularly Scheduled, Often Delayed, Homebuilder Koffee Klatch here in northern Sandy Eggo county. (Jim...

A Camcorder for Homebuilders by [email protected]
Samsung SC-MX10-XAA. Type that into Google, they'll show you a picture of it. But it is smaller than it looks -- it's about the size of a small Russet potato... about 5" long by 2.5" in diameter. Street price is about $180 (as of May 2008) If you're an accomplished videographer you'd never give...

Valve Train Geometry: Devil = Details by [email protected]
This week's Mystery Topic appears to be Valve Train Geometry, with a total of four messages since Monday, including one today. It's really pretty simple -- you're actuating a pivoted lever with a push-rod. The goal is to do so with the least amount of wasted motion. That means the mid-point of...

Old video of Burt Rutan and Mike Melvill demoing composite strength. by Jim Logajan
While searching for videos demonstrating composite construction on Youtube, I came across this rather dated video of Burt Rutan and Mike Melvill demonstrating the advantages of composites over aluminum: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7eUt0YnNF3o

Left handed GIII by Greg Siemon
I have owned a Glasair III in the past and look back in that as the most fun flying ever. I sold that and got a T210 in the hope that my wife would join me in my passion. Well that didn't happen so I've sold the T210 and now on the hunt for a replacement GIII. I've found one that looks nice...

Fatal Microlight Accident in NZ by JohnO
The president and chief instructor at a New Zealand microlight club were killed in a crash on the weekend. Apparently they took a flight at 3am, in the dark, in a thunderstorm, at a field with no lighting. Speculation is that alcohol was involved, but this seems to border on a suicide pact to...

Epoxy is really crap for homebuilding by Sliker
Lately I've had to use the stuff to work with some pre-made parts that were made from epoxy. Aeropoxy. Stinky! Epoxy is more viscose, so it doesn't wet out the cloth as well. It is more toxic, especially some of the older formulas. And smells horrible. And why did so many homebuilders get stuck...
