RICO VACS - is the schematic available anywhere? by
[email protected]
I liked the subtle ticking noise of ye olde RICO VACS vario I had in the HP-14. And it was very good at pointing out weak lift. Alas that relic from the 1970s stopped working some time circa 2000. I sent it to its maker and he fixed it, but it later failed again, as has another unit I scrounged...

US Standard Class Nationals--Day2 by
Retting
Here we go race fans.....Day 2
Hoo boy....we had to earn our pay today. Another TAT in the shape of a square,
running south a bunch into a 5 mile ring called West, right turn West a bunch more into a 15 mile ring,...you get the idea.
After dumping our water on the grid and doing the elephant walk,...

Ultimate Survival Pack by
Dan Marotta
I just learned about this really great survival pack from Switzerland.Â*
It's appears to be more useful than their Army Knife. They are currently
being offered for free and I'm sure all of us cheap glider pilots will
appreciate that.Â* If I miss out on the early promotion, I'll still buy
two of...

US Standard Class Nationals--Day 3 by
Retting
Hey hey....looks like I have competition with Walt reporting on Day 3...
TSA put on a left over cookout with plenty of BBQ, Burgers, and Hot Dogs with all the sides to go around. Beer of course and Ice Tea.
Then I got side tracked with Rich Owens (999pts today) telling me about all the fighter...

Mackay, ID 2018 Regatta by
Boise Pilot
Short summary of the 2018 Mackay, ID regatta held from July 23 to July 29. Yes we did get smoked out by the CA, OR, NV and ID fires which cut the event short by 6 days. BUT the days we flew were awesome.
-Total number of participants: 13 ( not all were there for the full term)
-Makeup of ships: 7...

US Standard Class -- Day 4 by
Retting
And today the big dogs ate. Two US team pilots beat the field by 5 mph.
A 340 mile racing task was called in the shape of a bowtie with the last point 100 miles from home. Another US Team dog holds on to first place by a half a turn.
We launch at noon taking quick climbs to a rising base at 5500'....

US Standard Class Nationals by
Retting
Good lord, who invented this torturous sport.
The only fun part was the line finish.
So, here we go. A 300 mile assigned task that took us across Bush Ranch twice. The first leg 100 miles SW into a quarter headwind that took the mortal pilots a couple of hours followed by a right turn for a 60...

New seating from scratch by
Senna Van den Bosch
Hey everyone, I'm thinking of upgrading the fabric seating of my DG-101. I currently use about 10kg's of lead to reach the minimum weight of 74kg and was thinking of integrating lead into the seat. Is this something ever done before? What are your opinions on this? Regular fabric is used now, would...

Rescue Aid by
Graham Drinkell[_2_]
I am working on a fluorescent pouch, comprising a helio-graph, hi
intensity LED lamp with SOS function, thermal blankets and an
EPIRB/mob phone pocket. Smoke flares cannot be used. This is a low
profit safety product. I will produce some decent photos and costs in
due course.

Emailing contest flight log to scorer by
[email protected]
From the cockpit, I want to transfer my flight log to my phone and email it to the contest scorer.
If your IGC approved logger is Bluetooth equipped and it is paired to your phone, is it just a simple matter of downloading log to phone and emailing the file?
Are there any "security" issues or 3rd...

Cobra trailer lug bolts by
Hartley Falbaum[_2_]
I am looking for information about the size of lug bolts used on Cobra trailers. Spindlebarger is currently closed until 10 August.
The Cobra manual indicates some lug bolts are 14 mm, instead of the usual 12mm. It also indicates a 15" wheel is sometimes used instead of the usual 14" (or 13" on...
