HVLP Paint Sprayer Recommendations by LongJourney
Has anyone used an HVLP sprayer to refinish a wood and fabric aircraft? If so, did you get a better finish? Did it save a significant amount of paint? Was it worth using vs. a regular paint spray gun? Thanks, Jeff

1 Attachment(s) Pawnee 235 vs Cessna Bird Dog vs Maule as towplanes by kirk.stant
I realize this has been hashed over in the past, but looking for a fresh discussion on the relative merits of these three towplanes. Specifically, how does a stock Bird Dog compare to a 235 Pawnee, and how do various Maules do as towplanes. Our club is considering various options for adding to...

Florida Grand Prix by Wallace Berry[_2_]
Huge thanks to the folks at Seminole Lake Gliderport and to Andy McQuigg for conceiving of and hosting the first Florida Grand Prix. The wet weather relented on Sunday and we got a beautiful blue sky full of cu's and a well-called task to match. I won't recount the race or results. That's for...

FAA Written Test by Mike
I am preparing to take my written Commercial Glider exam and have been using various test guides and on line practice tests. I am curious as to why there are questions pertaining to radio navigation included in the question pool. Has anyone ever used a VOR or ADF in a glider? Mike

I thought some of these are classics by goneill
Here are some conversations that airline passengers normally will never hear. The following are accounts of actual exchanges between airline pilots and control towers around the world. Tower: "Delta 351, you have traffic at 10 o'clock, 6 miles!" Delta 351: "Give us another hint! We have digital...

Closing of a gliderport, but not the end. by [email protected]
The Miami Gliderport in south Florida has closed after 40+ years. The owners of the land - not owned by the club - have other plans for the property. However, the Miami Glider Club remains active and most members will go to the Homestead Airport and likely buy tows and rent gliders from the...

XC Sickness by [email protected]
It's sad. Nobody warned me. I used to be happy just flying around near the airport. I didn't have a truck. I didn't have a "crew", I always knew where I was going to land. They don't tell you that you won't be happy just flying around near the airport after you've flown a little XC. Does this...

Rudder waggle by toad
Since the rudder waggle signal was brought up in another thread, I have a few thoughts and would like to get other opinions. I am a glider and tow pilot for my club, so I have thought these through from both ends. To start with, if the tow plane gives you a wave off signal, THERE IS TIME TO...

Seeking a glider (Discus B or CS or 2B, ASW-20, Ventus B, or LS-4). by [email protected]
Hi everyone, it was suggested that I post here that I am seeking a glider (Discus B or CS or 2B, ASW-20, Ventus B, or LS-4). I am monitoring W&W of course but if anyone knows of a ship above that is sitting unused which is a shame please let me know. Thanks all! Sincerely, Michael Price Cell...

Auto Tow Information by Steve Leonard
I am a bit disappointed to see this thread going the way the Yahoo Winch design group did. I still watch there and am interested in what comes of it. It started off (Or so I thought) with the notion of designing a simple but reliable winch that a small group of people could afford to build so a...

Video from Day 1 of Region 4 North 2012 by Sean F (F2)
Video here --- https://vimeo.com/52396659 Side note: Interesting PowerFLARM warning in at the 9:13 point of this video. The glider that bumped directly thru this thermal (about 20 ft. below me) will go unnamed. I am not claiming he/she did anything wrong at this point. But...this happens...

Spin Training by JJ Sinclair
Bill Dean, The tone of the spin discussion has taken a rather harsh turn, lately. I may be responsible for some of it, because I allowad myself to be sucked into a discussion of gun control, socialized medicine, slavery and Oh yes, spins. The harsh tone was not my intention and my posts have been...

IGC APproval for GPS with WAAS by Ivan Kahn
I was wondering if any of the manufacturers are considering submitting for IGC approval a GPS WAAS system that does not incorporate a barograph? Seems to me that such system is far more accurate then those that incorporate a barograph, and should also never need calibration. Ivan
