USS John F. Kennedy to be retired in 2005 by
[email protected]
I am afraid reducing the number of aircraft carriers might quickly
result in decreasing the number of active Carrier Air Wings also.
JFK, anyhow, has already escaped the axe before, when it became a
"training and reserve carrier"...
That may give us a glimpse how the Navy may look like in ten...

Naval aviator & NFO attire while underway by
Paul Michael Brown
Just started reading Sherwood's new book "Afterburner," about naval
aviation during the Vietnam War. While examining ready room photos of
various naval aviators and NFOs, I noticed many of them are *not* wearing
flight suits. Instead, they're wearing trousers, a web belt and a long
sleeve shirt...

"W" in 1971 (or 1972) by
[email protected]
In late May or June of 1971 or 72, I was driving my car on a lark from
Farmer's Branch Texas down through Louisiana to New Orleans when I
picked up a hitch-hiker on the return leg. The young man, hitch-hiking
for the first time in his life, claimed he was a "jet fighter
pilot" and had graduated...

F-14 Tomcat story. by
JDupre5762
I was told a story once by someone who worked at Grumman concerning the F-14.
It seems that one day a crew took up an F-14 and shortly after take off found
that the pitch controls (elevons?) were stuck causing the aircraft to pitch up
uncontrollably. By increasing power the crew was able to keep...
