Autopilot pitch problem by
Jim Burns
We've got an S-Tec 60-2 in our Aztec. After sitting out in a heavy pounding
rain last summer, we started experiencing run away pitch problems. I found
an S-Tec news letter that says this can happen when water gets into the
static system and the transducer can't read the proper static pressure....

CO Detectors by
Kobra
Anyone know if there is any problem in buying a battery operated "home" CO
detector and mounting it under your seat or somewhere inconspicuous? What
is the difference between a "home" unit and an "aviation" unit?
Now before you get crazy and call me cheap...I know that the credit card
pill type...

Charging? by
PaulaJay1
I have a voltmeter plugin in the cig lighter socket. It reads about 11.5 when
I trun on the master. Reads about 12.8 after engine start and after an hour
flight has worked up to maybe 13.7 or so. I plan on taking a known accurate
meter out Sat to check these reading.
My A&P says maybe the...

Insurance renewal shock by
Maule Driver
My renewal for the Maule went from $1300 to $2000. Same carrier (Global),
same coverage. Broker said that they requested quotes from 6-8 companies -
2 quotes rec'd, this was the lowest.
Ouch!

Should I consider this plane - weird engine history by
[email protected]
Looking at a '73 Cherokee 180 that had an overshoot incident about 300
hours ago. At that time the owner had to do a bottom overhaul I think
because of engine stoppage and at the same time did a top overhaul -
but not a major. So basically it's been 1600 smoh, but only 300 since
bottom and top. ...

Got a call from the mechanic "fuel cap gaskets are worn, need
replacement" me: fine, replace gaskets
Another call from mech "uhh, no part number on the fuel caps, not
normal piper part, therefore no approved gasket can be found, have to
replace caps AND gaskets" me: OK, I guess no...

STC for power in teh cockpit? by
Tommy C
Hello,
Our FLight dept owns a Lear 31a. Currently there is no power to the
cabin (ie **V outlet) I have been quoted exhorbanant pricing to add a
12v cigar lighter (5000+) to the cockpit or cabin. Any ideas on what
I can do as an alternative? (and still remain legal)
Thanks, Tommy
PS, I know...

Jet Ranger Operating Costs? by
greenwavepilot
Two Scenarios:
1. Operating Costs for brand new Jet Ranger flying daily.
2. Operating Costs for Mid-time Jet Ranger flying daily.
Other Considerations:
1. Typical pilot salary costs (Commercial Rotorcraft Pilot) with over
2000 hours.

Considering buying a share by
Paul Tomblin
I belong to a really good flying club
(http://www.rochesterflyingclub.com/) - we've got 5 aircraft ranging from
a Piper Warrior (PA28-161) to a Piper Lance (P32R-300). I fly about 25-35
hours a year, and wish I could fly more. The majority of my flying is
weekend trips up to Canada to see my...

Skycraft Landing Light Question by
Jay Honeck
I'm in the midst of having these lights installed, (they are the
cut-in-the-leading-edge landing lights) and we come to a fork in the road
with regards to the wiring.
The kit comes with a split L/R on/off switch, and two 10 amp circuit
breakers. This means that my existing landing light switch...

CNX-80 -> GNS-480 upgrade: no longer resets to 1200? by
Roy Smith
My club is upgrading our collection of CNX-80's to the new GNS-480
software. We've noticed that when hooked up to a slaved xponder, the
squawk code is no longer reset to 1200 when you power down the unit.
The way we noticed this is having a few people "reminded" by the tower
that they should be...

Spark plug question: Massive electrode or fine wire? by
Peter R.
Google shows that this question last appeared here in 2001. Therefore, I
wanted to pose it again in the event there might be more anecdotal data
since then.
Are there benefits to replacing massive electrode spark plugs with fine
wire spark plugs?
Background: I have a turbo-normalized IO-520 in...

scan aircraft log to CD by

I'm sure some of you here have scanned your logs into a machine readable format.
Please let me take advantage of what you've learned.
Do you store the scanned pages as .jpg, or .pdf, or something else?
Each page a separate file?
Any special software?
Did you build an index? If so, how?

Skycraft Landing Light Installation Pix by

http://www.alexisparkinn.com/skycraft_landing_lights.htm
The pictures don't capture all the nitty gritty details of the
installation. A couple of things to note:
1. The wiring does NOT go inside the wings, but is rather routed inside
a flexible conduit that gets attached to the wing ahead of the...
