New Shiny! Toy by
Dave Buckles
It occurs to me that I've somehow managed to avoid actually posting the
details of my recent purchase. Some of you may have noticed (from some
of my other posts) that I just picked up a new toy. She's a 1993 Socata
TB9 Tampico (pictures are available on my company...

Buying a plane versus renting by
RD
Just wondering if anyone has some experience on the above subject. I'm
looking at building up some time (500 hours or more) within the next couple
of years. My two options are to buy an older 172/Arrow etc or just to keep
renting which is very expensive.
If I can find a decent airplane, in the...

Sales Tax and Delivery by
Rob Thomas
I'm curious if anyone has ever done this:
Purchase a used aircraft in California (my state of residency) and have it
delivered by the dealer to Oregon. There it will stay for 91 days and be
flown on occasion, then brought back down into California.
My real question here is "if I buy the aircraft...

Benchtops & Shelving by
Jim Weir
I'm about to start building the "furniture" for the hangar. After a lifetime of
building "manly" workbenches out of DF 4x4s milled to take 2x4 crossmembers, and
having the concomitant rot and deterioration of wood, I'm considering making the
framing out of 1¼ PVC Schedule 40 pipe and fittings. ...

Piper 6.00x6 Nose wheel and fork? by
mikem
I need some help with Piper part numbers. I'm looking for the
Piper Part numbers of the 6.00x6 nose wheel fork used on the
"heavier" Cherokees, Comanchees, etc.
Jay Honeck and Don Tuite sent reprints of the PA28 manual pages which
show only the 5.00x5 wheel and hardware. Thanks guys.
I have seen...

Cherokee on floats by
Doug
If you go to http://www.ontarioseaplane.com and click on "photo
gallery" then click on "interesting floatplane pictures", there is a
Cherokee on floats. Probably one of only 2 or 3 in the world. (There
ya go Jay Honeck!)

Fuel Selector Valve by
Tom Cummings
We were doing the annual on a 1973 Cessna 172M today and discovered the fuel
selector valve would not shut off the fuel - in any postion. The handle is
not slipping on the shaft and there is mechanical connect through the
linkage. The detents can be felt in each position and we can visually see
the...

Randolph Wing Walk Compound by
Larryskydives
Alright, I need your comments on Randolph Wing Walk Compound. I am going to do
a few things to clean up my Arrow. One of the more noticeable things is the
wing walk. I have bought some Wing Walk Compound, and weather permitting will
probably put it on this weekend.
Any suggestions?
Any personal...

Arrow auto gear extension oddness by
Roy Smith
I was on a training flight a few days ago in a 180 HP Arrow. I was
demonstrating pitch stability. We were trimmed for straight and level
cruise (something like 23 inches and 2300 RPM at 3500 feet) when I
pushed us over into a dive, letting the airspeed climb well up into the
yellow arc.
Here's...

Upgrade handheld GPS, or save for panel mount? by
[email protected]
I am thinking about upgrading my aging Garmin 195. The new inexpensive
WAAS-enabled offerings from Lowrance make it almost irresistible, and my
Garmin is losing value in the used market fast. As I see it, my
options are to upgrade the handheld or just grit my teeth and save up
for a panel-mount....

Yesterday, for the first time since I bought Atlas in 2002, EVERYTHING in

Both radios (one new), both VORs (one new), both GPS's (one new), the

Reliability of O-300 by
Captain Wubba
Hello. Looking at buying another airplane (I tried cutting out the
middleman and just flushing $100 bills down the toilet, but it isn't
quite the same). I'm currently considering early-mid 60s Cessna 172s,
powered by the 145 HP Continental O-300, and would like to hear from
any owners of these...
