Michigan (UP) KSAW winds ?? by
Mitty
I'm planning a trip to the Upper Peninsula in about a month, so I've
begun looking at charts. We'll be landing at Marquette, Escanaba,
Menominee, and Houghton. Or that's the plan anyway.
Marquette/Sawyer KSAW has one runway, 2 1/2 miles long x 150' pointed
1/19. Now the collective wisdom of...

IFR route BOS - IAD? by
Peter MacPherson
Anybody know of an IFR route that you've used to go
from the Boston area(just south of Boston) to the Baltimore
area(Dulles)? I always seem to get routed up to the north
or they want to send my out over the water. When VFR I'm
always given direct JFK, then turn when past JFK. The TEC
route is V44...

Scott Moore
Does anyone know if the advent of the GNS 480 (WAAS capable version of the 430)
spells the end of the possibility to upgrade a 430 ?

IFR to Chandler AZ (Phoenix area) by
S. Sherman
Hello,
I'm relatively new to IFR (got the rating in Jan.) and also have never
flown into the Arizona area.
I'll be flying from the San Diego area into Chandler (CHD) and I want
to do the flight IFR. I have some questions:
1. Does ATC normally route you to CHD using one of the PHX STARs? I
did...

First Solo In Actual Conditions by
David B. Cole
On Saturday I had my first opportunity to fly solo in actual since my
IR checkride. One of my biggest concerns since getting the rating was
how I would make my first entry into actual without the benefit of an
instructor at my side. With about ten hours of actual during my
training I had always...

Getting unlost (was Training Q - Is this appropriate) by
K. Ari Krupnikov
vincent p. norris writes:
I passed my private in 2000. Haven't had any problems with pilotage
since (dead reckoning is another matter. I figure if I need to use
dead reckoning, I need to file IFR).
Meaning no offense, Ari, I'm puzzled by that response.

Questtions about ATC-Fligtplan by
Daniel Hofer
Hello
I have some questions about the ATC-flightplan and how to fill it out.
1. Field 10, standard equipment
ILS means localizer AND glideslope, right?
DME is not part of standard equipment, right?
2. Field 10
R means RNP. Do I need to write e.g. R5 for RNP5? Or is no value needed? (is

2 pilot/small airplane CRM by
Mitty
Can anyone point me to web or print resources with discussion of how to
best utilize two pilots in small airplanes? Who does what, etc. I have
found lots of airline-level material but really nothing that relates to
flying light singles. Or maybe someone who regularly flies with a pilot
spouse? ...

OK, FAR Lawers we need your help! by
Mike Rapoport
Recently the COE VOR was notamed OTS. Coincedent with this the KSZT LOC/DME
was notamed NA. The explanation given was that the COE VOR was nessasary to
fly the tranition (COE is the IAF) and the missed approach (the missed ends
with a hold at the COE VOR). I contend that GPS can substitute for...

B-RNAV with GNS430 by
Daniel Hofer
Hello
a question again;-)
Our PA34 with two Garmin GNS430 is certified for B-RNAV (RNP5)
I can't find any information about the source signal.
Does the GNS430 calculate RNAV information only from its GPS-signal or can
it also get information from the VOR/DME?
Does anybody know something about...

Upgrading your Strikefinder? by
Peter MacPherson
Has anyone upgraded their older Strikefinder(plasma screen)
to the newer(LED) model? My display is getting very weak
and hard to read and I thought I heard Insight would upgrade
your older plasma model to the newer model at a decent price.
TIA,
Pete

First IFR flight after checkride by
Wizard of Draws
August 22, 2004 12:30 2.2 hrs. (.4 actual)
First flight after my IFR checkride, with actual!
For one of the few times in my brief aviation journey, I had a plane
reserved and hoped for cloudy skies. Not the towering,
throw-down-fire-from-the-heavens kind of clouds, but a benign overcast that
I...

10 hrs. Instrument for Commercial by

Just started looking at ASE requirements. I don't have to get _another_
10 hours if I am already IA rated, right? Previous instrument training
time has to apply here. ? FAR 61.129(a)3(i)
Thanks.

Excel formula for logbook by
Wizard of Draws
I have my logbook duplicated in Excel, but now that I've added my instrument
rating, it might be nice to have Excel keep track of my currency on
approaches. Maybe flag a cell as red or green depending upon my status...
Unfortunately I'm just barely competent with the program and don't have a
clue...

me with an IAP question. The airport involved is RKW, which is Rockwood,
Tennessee. The IAP in question is the VOR/DME RWY 22 into Rockwood. If you
have the plate or know the procedure, I hope you can help me out.

"W" is JFK's son and Bush revenge killed Kennedy in 1963 by
Ross C. Bubba Nicholson
JFK gave Barbara Pierce a lesson in life in the summer of 1944 (making
her a "Cape Cod heiress"), and to her eventual husband, JFK gave a
personal motive for revenge. Perhaps if George and Barb had announced
their earlier engagement or even if George had given Barb a diamond

Why is a standard hold right turns? by
Roy Smith
It has always struck me odd that a standard landing pattern is left
turns and a standard hold is right turns. Having a left patterns for
landing makes a bit of sense, since the pilot is on the left side of the
cockpit and has a better view of the runway making left turns.
But, for IFR holds,...
