Getting students to line up with the center line by
BoDEAN
I'm having an issue with 2 students.
One has a hard time lining up/staying lined up with the center line
(no wind and xwind). I keep telling him "toes forward" and "Have the
center line cut through your body"
Still not grasping it.
The other student, likes to be 10-20 degrees angled left /...

Chasing the front by
Paul Tomblin
Last night I took off with a band of thunderstorms ahead of me and a cold
front behind me, and rode a 70+ knot tail wind home. Man, I've never seen
the scenery pass by so fast! Of course the downside is that passing
through 3,000 feet on the way to land, it got really, really, really bumpy
and I...

David Clarke Reviews by
Paul
Hi
I am a student pilot hoping to take my checkride within the next month
(PPL/A).
I am after a David Clarke Headset but am not sure which one to buy.
Does anyone know of a good website that has independent reviews on all the
Dave Clarke models, the only reviews I can find are either on the...

Umbrella insurance for pilots? by
SeattleFlyer
I was reading my umbrella insurance policy recently, and I saw that
they don't cover any liabilities related to my use or owning of
aircraft. Needless to say I would rather give my money to a company
that didn't have this exclusion. Does anyone have an umrella policy
that covers flying, if so can...

FAA 'Airplane Flying Handbook' online? by
Captain Wubba
Howdy. Does anyone know if a copy of the FAA's 'Airplane Flying
Handbook' (FAA-8083-3) is available online in a PDF or HTML version
anywhere? The book it replaces (The old Flight Training Handbook, AC
61-21) was available for download on the FAA's AC site, but I can't
find the new book except in...

Sun N Fun - Highs and Lows by
Jay Honeck
For those who don't wish to read the narrative, here's an abbreviated
assessment of SNF 2004:
High Points of SNF
*******************************
- The first 1000 pilots received a cool "I flew into Sun N Fun 2004" hat.
It even fits my fat head!
- The food at Sun N Fun is terrific. Margaritaville...

Cross Country Logging time by
Jim
I flew from Airport A to Airport B (did 1 touch-and-go) to Airport C
(did 1 touch and go) to airport D (did 3 touch and goes), then returned
to Airport A and landed. Airports A & D are greater than 50 nm apart.
Airports A&B, B&C, and C&D are less than 50 nm apart, respectively.
Should I log the...

Constant speed prop oil leak by
DP
I was pre-flighting my plane today until I saw this long red strip
running down the entire length of my prop with a small puddle at the
bottom!!! I hadn't seen it before. It was the first time flying in
three weeks. I was at the plane last week, and didn't see anything,
but the again, I wasn't...

Letter to the Editor Response by
Judah
So I was flying on a biz trip across the country yesterday, and happened
to pick up an old USA Today, and I read the Editorial page, and what do I
see?
Apparently, the editors of USA Today are showing support for Richard
Anderson, CEO of Northwest Airlines.
Since it was a cross-country flight, I...

Lean of Peak Test Flight by
Roger Long
I flew our 172 N for two hours today at various altitudes between 3500 and
8500 experimenting further with LOP. Here's what I learned:
1) Forget "Peak" and "LOP". The buzzword applicable to a fixed pitch carb
engine with single probes is "Richening" instead of "Leaning". The engine
behaves...

An eye opening experience... by
Sam
While hanging out at Sun-n-fun this weekend, I came across the FAA
training area and saw that they had a full motion simulator available
for simulated spatial disorientation. I'm currently about 70% through
ground school, and will begin flight training in a couple of weeks. I
have been flying...

I need some advice on buying my own plane BEFORE training... by

Hello everyone. Let me give you a little background on my situation. I am
25, married, and my wife's father is a CFI at a local field. He has taken
me on a Discovery Flight, and I am hooked. In short, in the past 4-6
months, I have been reading magazines, posts, the internet, etc... all...

CFII or multi-engine? by
Casey Hansen
Hello-
I am a CFI and I'm 19 years old. I attend college for something other
than flying (although I want to fly professionally, just want a 4-year
degree). I am wondering what people's suggestions are for a next
step... the CFII or multi-engine rating? Which would be more useful at
this point in...

Flight log: CA to MA and back ! by
Jim Wang
Last May I took a trip I've always wanted to fly: from San Diego to
Massachusetss where I grew up. It was almost all VFR too: I was
trying for 100%, but the coastal fog at my home airport required an
ILS.
And an amazing circumstance too: my AI tumbled somewhere over
Pennsylvania, and looked like...

Weather and ground effect by
Kevin Chandler
I was wondering if someone can shed some light on a phenomon I keep
experiencing. I took a Mooney up to warm it up prior to an oil change.
There was 70 degree crosswind at 20 gusting 28. Needless to say, there was
moderate turbulance below 8K. As expected, I got beat up pretty good just
briefly...
