Piston engine 101 Course? by
[email protected]
Does anyone know of a one-day course on non-fuel-injected piston
aircraft engines? Sort of an Engines 101? Six-cylinder preferred;
Continental 0-300 ideal. Advanced Pilots Seminars has an extensive
course on piston engines but it's far more advanced than I need. I'd
like someone to walk me through...

DRVSM by
Roger Long
I see on AOPA's web site that the FAA has blown off AOPA and all the other
industry groups on DRVSM implementation. Does not getting your biz jet or
turboprop outfitted with this equipment mean you won't be able to fly it
above FL 290 or only at the new intermediate levels?

Wing-walk cleaning by
Mike Noel
My Cherokee's wing-walk has a few oil stains after coming back from an oil
pump impeller gear replacment session with my mechanic. Regular washing
doesn't touch it. I tried hitting it with Windex and that didn't lift it.
I've currently got some wheat-based kitty litter lying on it and...

Instrument lighting for 1980 Cessna 182Q [Club maintenance] by
Andrew Gideon
So I've taken on a project for my club, as a part of my desire to get more
involved in the maintenance side of things. I'm to seek out options for
new and improved instrument lighting for one of our aircraft.
The club Maintenance Chief provided me with some information he'd already
collected. ...

Shadin flowmeter problems - anyone else sees this? by
Bill Zaleski
I have used a Microflo for 4000 hours now. I have found that unless
you leave power on for about one minute after setting FOB, the gal
remaining, or the fuel used, I can't remember which, will not be
correct. Yes, it is EEPROM memory, and does not need power to hold
data, but seems to need power...

DG Questions by
Jay Honeck
Six weeks ago my attitude indicator gave up the ghost, after slowly dying
over a period of several months. It's been replaced with a re-built unit
that's working fine.
Two days ago my directional gyro abruptly failed. It worked fine flying
into Pella, and it didn't work at all flying out. The...

Shadin flowmeter problems - anyone else sees this? by
Steve Beaver
Just a guess but EEPROM can be very slow indeed. Depending on the exact part
number, it may not even be possible to change a single location in the chip.
This means that you have to read the entire contents (or a large part) of
the chip, change the value you need to update and then write it all...

Fuel Drip Containment by
Jim Weir
Snarly Charlie, the 182, has the classic "Cessna drip" from the fuel vent when
the tanks are filled and the hangar gets warm. I've tried everything I know to
stop it, but all I can do with all the mechanical fixes is slow it down.
I'm getting ready to patch the asphalt under the drip and paint...

Testing your glide. Are people doing this? by
Montblack
("Yossarian" wrote in the Catalina Perep thread)
My first trip I was that low too, but now my FBO insists on a continuous
climb to the middle of the channel for better glide distance if your
engine
quits. 4500' in a 172 is only like 7 miles glide.
I wonder how many people have actually...

post vs stick hangar construction by

For anybody that is in construction or that has researched affordable
hangar options....for an insulated steel sided and roofed hangar which
is more affordable to build- post style (pole barn) or traditional
stick (framed walls)?
Our EAA chapter built a traditional stick hangar and insulated...
