Glass vs. Charts by
Mxsmanic
When you are flying (and assuming you have a GPS with electronic chart
databases), do you usually use paper charts for navigation (looking up
frequencies, checking for restricted airspace, etc.) or do you look it up on
your GPS, and why?

airspace question by
michcio
In my area there is a C right next to D airspace.
After establishing radio contact with class C approach and the D
airspace being in my flight path, do I need to talk directly with
airspace D to get cleared through it, or is that all taken care of by
the approach controller?
Thanks.

Where old planes go to die (eventually) by
Kingfish
I spent a week in the Caribbean in early April flying charters out of
San Juan. Our planes were stuffed away out of sight on apron 7 at SJU.
Interesting place there - we shared ramp space with a grounded DC-3, a
pair of Convair 440s, a few freight 1900s & Metros, a hunk of 727
fuselage, and a...

Any Flying Clubs near Houston? by
Craig Slein
Subject heading says it all. Prospective pilot cracking manuals and
learning all I can from freely available sources. After I pass (and I will)
the FAA exam, I'll need to start flying. Every source I've seen says that a
Flight Club is the best way to meet people with similar interests and...

Don't fly weather briefing by
Danny Deger
Has anyone else noticed a tendency for FSS briefers to give you a "stay on
the ground" weather briefing for isolated thunderstorms? 90% of the time on
a summer day in Texas there are some storms. Usually easy to see and avoid.
But I have in the past had a controller that obviously didn't want...

Stafford VA? by
Marco Leon
Anyone fly into Stafford on an IFR flight plan? I'm planning on going there
this weekend and I was wondering if there were special procedures
considering it's so close to the ADIZ. Do IFR flights keep their squawk
until touchdown just in case? I'm coming from the NY area. I'd appreciate
any...

Question for Bob Gardner - Multiengine bank angle by
kevmor
I just finished reading the Jeppesen "flight discovery" series for
their Multiengine manual, and just started reading the ASA's The
Complete Multiengine pilot. I noticed in their book that they
mentioned several times that, for best performance, you don't need 5
degrees of bank that planes are...

Tillamook Oregon??? by
Tri-Pacer
My wife has been wanting to go to the Tillamook Cheese factory in Tillamook.
Can any of you Oregon chaps tell me if I can rent a car or get a Taxi at the
airport?
I looked on their web page, and there was no mention of any sort of
transportation. I tried calling them and get an answering...

Wind is fun by
Dave J
I went down to the airport (KPAO) the other day, not really knowing
what I was going to do. When I got their the wind was 260 variable
320, 15 gusting 20. I thought about whether doing some pattern work in
that would be manageable, and decided, I was up for it. I rented the
club's rattiest 172 (no...

Got My Ticket today!!!! by

After an additional 5.5 hours practicing forward slips to a landing and soft
field landings, I got my ticket today. I will admit it is exciting to
finally get your ticket checking to see if it's truly mine, yep, has my
name on it.
Now that the "pressure" is off, I plan to just fly and...

Reference times for Tach Meters by
[email protected]
Relatively new pilot here, trying to optimize flight time/cost for
distance flights.
I belong to a flying club that charges different rates for Tach/
Hobbs. I use the airplane mostly for longer trips (not flight
training anymore), meaning the advantage of the Tach/Hobbs difference
is mostly lost,...

lesson report by
Oz Lander[_2_]
The sky was pure blue for most of the morning, with not a breath of
wind, or a wisp of cloud to speak of. My flight was booked for 3pm, but
I called earlier, and was told I could fly at 2:30 if I wanted.
I arrived in time, and after general chit chat about how perfect the
weather was for flying, I...

Oshkosh Housing ... Hell Of a Deal by
RST Engineering
After 33 years in the hot sweaty UW-O dorms, Gail and I decided to venture
far afield to see what was available in the area.
One of our brethren in this ng emailed me about a very nice Bed'n'Breakfast
he found in Waupaca. I checked it out and it seemed like a hell of a deal.
$100 a night for...
