Diamond DA-40 headroom by
[email protected]
I had a chance to fly a DA-40 Diamond Star quite a bit over the
holidays, to give some young eagles rides to kids in the family. After
flying this plane, I'd have to say I much prefer it to either the 172
or Archer. The only downside I found was that the headroom in the front
seats is just barely...

ADF Problem by
tony roberts
Hi
Today I was flying north and my ADF was tuned to an NDB.
The needle pointed at 330 degrees (or 11 O'clock) until I reached the
NDB, and then it swung until it pointed behind.
I dialed up the next NDB and it pointed at 330 again until passage.
And I dialed up another NDB - same indication - all...

No Gyro and ILS approach with ATC COMS - Video by
A Lieberma[_2_]
I did two approaches today, each in separate videos.
First one is an ILS approach into HKS Jackson Hawkins airport in VMC
conditions. Purpose of this approach was to "warm up" for my next
approach which was a no gyro approach into KJAN Jackson MS.
Both videos contain ATC communications as well...

Place to post pix of our steeds...? by
Jay Honeck
Hey folks,
I've been sitting here thinking about our upcoming get together in OSH, and
I realized that not only don't we know what each other looks like, but --
worse! -- we don't know what each other's planes look like!
This seems to be a major failing of this newsgroup, if you ask me. I...

Piper Wing Lighting by
Jessewright8
Has anyone had any experience with the 'skylight' brand of wing lighting? I
have never heard of it until today when I saw it in a flyer for Cherokee Pilots
Assoc. I have been looking at wingtip lighting... but it's pricey. The
skylight lighting is mounted into the leading edge, rather than the...

AnywhereWX??? by
mtmueller
After considerable research, I have pretty much written off adding weather
to my Garmin 530 right now. It looks like the GDL-49 just doesn't do what I
want, and is too susceptable to interference for efficient delivery of
detailed weather, and you have to add another damned VHF antenna (which
would...

Mooney Electric Trim Problem by
[email protected]
Perhaps someone here can suggest where to start looking for this
problem:
Ocassionally, the electric trim on my '78 Mooney 201 will stop working
for "nose up". When I press the button and push forward the trim will
run nose down, buy the other way - nothing. While I have the button
pressed, the...

If you go to http://www.ontarioseaplane.com and click on "photo
gallery" then click on "interesting floatplane pictures", there is a
Cherokee on floats. Probably one of only 2 or 3 in the world. (There
ya go Jay Honeck!)

2-place Intercom and 4 Headsets by
Kai Glaesner
Hello community,
imagine you have a plane (rented) with a build in 2-place intercom
(sigtronics in this case) and want to give your passengers their own
headsets, so you can communicate with them. It is not necessary for them to
hear the radio transmissions you make, although, it would be nice (if...

IOF 240 Engine-Would it run if the batteries fail? by
Piperflyer
Liberty XL2 has the Continetal IOF 240 with FADEC. Would the engine run if
the batteries failed? It does not have a magneto. Would the ignition system
run off of the alternator? The salesman at Sun-n-fun had no clue. Does
anyone know?

AeroStar Fuel system? by
Al G[_1_]
Could someone fill me in on the Aerostar fuel system? The one in
question is a 602P.
IIRC, Ted Smith designed it as a "Leave it alone and burn all the fuel
in the airplane" type system.
But wasn't there a lawsuit over one years ago?

It won't help on your 2008 tax return, but this article on aviation taxes talks about some new tax benefits available if you purchase an aircraft in 2009.

Does anyone have tax tips that might help aircraft owners in 2008???

Fuel Injection and Variable Timing by

I was curious how much fuel injection and variable spark timing reduces fuel
consumption and increase power in an airplane engine. Auto engine data does
not help because auto engines are run over a wide range of conditions,
wereas an aviation engine typically runs at cruise power and can...
