Silly controller by
Robert M. Gary
The other day I was doing a VFR practice approach into Tracy, CA when
the controller told me "reporting canceling IFR this freq, or on ground
via land line...". I told him "uh, ok canceling IFR, I didn't believe I
was IFR" (because I hadn't asked for or received an IFR clearance).
The controller...

IFR from CQX (Chatham, MA) by
Andrew Gideon
I see that CQX has a clearance delivery frequency, so IFR ops there
apparently don't require a phone call to FSS (excluding the filing, of
course).
But when IFR out of KCDW, I can expect release delays because CDW
departures are treated with lower priority than TEB, EWR, and probably...

Airline Terror attack by
TomatoHead
IF? the diaper heads were successful in bringing down 10
transatlantic flights from the UK to America, what would
have been the impact to the airline industry?
With high oil prices and a major terror attack can airlines
survive an attack of that magnitude?
I don't think so

Cost Savings for PPL by
oscarm
Hi Group,
I am currently attending a flying school Part 61. Since I've been
playing Flight Sim for about 15 years, on my first lesson I was able to
land the airplane right away. Thanks to Microsoft Flight Simulator.
I believed that I am a step or two step ahead compared to other student
that never...

ATC "cancellation" of scheduled carrier flights? by
Marc J. Zeitlin
While discussing reimbursement of hotel bills from a major airline, I
was told that my flight(s) were cancelled BY ATC.
Now, I know that ATC can delay IFR clearances/takeoffs based on
weather, traffic volume, landing slots at the destination, and
probably cosmic ray intensity as well, but I...

ATPL student by
Frode Berg
Today I finally took the plunge and ordered the distance study course
towards the ATPL frozen theory!
I have been wanting this for years, but it's quite a costly thing to start,
so it's taken a while!
I now have 280 hours on my PPL, and looking forward to get my IR rating
maybe next...

Can a failed Glide Slope also void the Localizer approach? by
Jim Carter
I had a question today that I've never considered, and need the
experience of the group.
Are there airports with ILS approaches such that if the Glide Slope
component failed or went OTS, the entire approach would be un-executable
by regulation? I've always assumed that with the GS OTS I'd just...

Copper in oil analysis ? by

I've just had a big increase in copper; wonder where copper comes
from. The engine is an IO-540-C4D5D, 500 hrs since new in 2002.
I had the same thing happen. Copper comes from brass bushings. In my
case the wrist pin broke in the middle and the bushing was being
destroyed. I...

Jeppesen renewal notices by

Am I the only one that thinks that Jeppesen renewal notices are well
past the phrase "sleazy" in their wordiing?
I had a Skybound subscription that I did not renew when the
subscription period ran out. Now I am getting these renewal notices
(which is fine in and of itself) that say things like...

IFR Routing to W95 Ocracoke Island? by
RH
Hi everyone,
We have a vacation planned in September to Ocracoke Island. We'll be
departing from Spartanburg, SC (SPA).
I have flown to Ocracoke once before but that was VFR from the north.
Any idea what routing to expect when IFR from the west?

IFR flight plan with multiple stops by
gregscheetah
A recent flight planning software package I am trying creates a single
flight plan - say from DSM to Jeffco. Even tho there is a fuel stop in
KLBF, about midway. This is what it wants to file with DUATS.
My question is: I have always thought it was necessary to file two
flight plans - one DSM...

Canadian IFR requirement (equipment) by

Hello,
Can someone point me to the correct CARS that state what is requirement
to have your aircraft IFR certified? I imagine a primary and secondary
type navigation equipment. Just curious as to the exact wording.
Thanks,

Let a friend fly the plane. Legal? by
Doug
One of my students asked me if it is legal to let a friend fly his
plane. Student is legal PIC, not an instructor and the plane has dual
controls, his friend is an adult, but no license. But I have to admit,
although I don't know of any specific prohibition on this, I'm not sure
if I should tell...

sferics vs Nexrad by
Jose
I just watched a storm develop from just light rain to nasty boomer on
the radar (and pass over my house) in seven minutes, which leads me to
wonder whether, had I been relying on Nexrad for strategic weather
avoidance, I might have flown right into it, and whether sferics would
have given me a...

Vacuum pump STC by

I would like to make my 1960 Cessna 172A IFR. Currently, I have only
venturi vacuum. My A & P stated that as there is no STC for a vacuum
pump intall, I need a form 337 field approval...I think it is form 337,
I could be wrong on that. Does anyone have information relating to
STC's and field...
