Travolta - did he ever ditch an aircraft? by
TheShootingSports
Hi all,
I had once heard that John Travolta once ditched an aircraft. I have never heard this, but to settle a "discussion" could someone tell me if he did in fact successfully ditch an aircraft ever in his years of flying?
Supposedly, he was all alone when this occurred.

Garmin GPSMAP 296 by
Cockpit Colin
Hi Folks,
I was very interested to check out the link to the (apparent) new Garmin
296 - what's confusing me though is that there is absolutely no mention of
it on the Garmin site.
Anyone got any ideas as to why this might be?
If I bought on right now I wouldn't even be able to update the...

AOPA Flight Planner - Microsoft only? by
Andrew Gideon
I tried to go to the AOPA Flight Planning web page today, and found that the
only option remaining is to download a Microsoft-only application. This
seems annoying.
Sure, I was able to go directly to the duat web site, and it was fine. But
I'm a member of AOPA, and they've eliminated a benefit...

What's high TT for a Lyc 235? by
Paul Folbrecht
My engine has 1200 SMOA and 4500 TT. I can find very little regarding
the relevance of total time. Maybe it's close to irrelevant since a MO
touches everything anyway. Lyc even zero-times their remans, of course,
even they are obviously not truly 0 TT. Just curious about the subject
of engine...

Survival at Sea
By PR2 Ronald Beermnder
The Coast Guard puts the life expectancy for swimming in
59-degree-Fahrenheit water at less than two hours. It's called
hypothermia: Abnormally low body temperature, with slowing of
physiologic activity.

I'll be flying out of White Plains, NY (HPN) to Allentown, PA (ABE) in early
June and would like to fly down the Hudson River to the Statue of Liberty
then west. It looks like the Class B and TEB's Class D would allow this at
1000' MSL without any clearance or approval, am I right in this...

Cabin Pressure Altitude by
Greg Esres
14 CFR 121.327 says that "cabin pressure altitude" and "flight
altitude" mean the same thing for unpressurized cabins.
Now, even though Part 91 doesn't have the same statement, I think it
reasonable that the same definition applies to 91.211...

Flight to Mesa AZ via Monument Valley UT by

My hanger mate has been considering buying a RV-6A for a few months.
We made one trip to Texas to view one but that did not work out.
Today we went to Mesa AZ (Phoenix area) from Colorado Springs CO to
view another one. My planning generated a trip that straight line
was about 478 nm. But that...

Microsoft Flight Simulator and Garmin aviation handheld GPS by
John Bell
I have always thought that it would be a nice training tool to be able to
get a handheld GPS to work with Microsoft Flight Simulator. I had success
with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004, Garmin 196, and Garmin GPS III Pilot.
I would imagine that a Garmin 295 would also work.

Are sectional paths correct across "long" distances? by

No. Straight lines on Lambert Conformal maps are not great circles.
It's my understanding that the Lambert Conformal is better than any
other flat surface at representing the curved surface of the earth in
such a way that a straight line on the chart comes very close to being
a Great...
