1983 Mooney Ad - N44SL by
Ken Harry
Just curious - I ran across an old ad in Sport Aviation
with a Mooney flying feathered prop, above an LS4 -
N44SL.
I'm curious who was the brave glider driver?

New Mexico Fire-Devils by
Larry Pardue
Greetings:
Last week, around Wednesday, there was a large grass fire west of Portales,
New Mexico, USA. The wind was around 45 knots and it was warm.
Albuquerque television station KOB aired some video tape of the fire that I
found astounding. They showed two, what I would call, fire-devils. ...

To recap, one of the SparrowHawks built for Mississippi State University
broke up in flight Oct 18. The pilot parachuted safely.
I just finished talking to Greg Cole, designer of the SparrowHawk. The
program manager from MSU visited him Monday to discuss the data from the
flight and pictures of...

Dick Johnson Video Interview by
Kemp[_2_]
Like many others, I was saddened to learn of Dick Johnson's death
earlier this month. I interviewed Dick at the SSA convention in
February, but had not completed processing the video and let it sit,
like a number of other digital projects. Events of course, kicked me
in action, so this video...

Goop / caulk recommendations by
Jonathan St. Cloud
My trailer arrived with two soft solar chargers attached to the roof top via a sort of caulk/goop. Two years later the trailer is leaking under the solar panels. Looking for a recommendation for a goop or caulk that is white or clear, and can withstand the sun and heat of the Western USA flying...

XC soar data issues by
HGXC[_3_]
I have a dell streak and have downloaded the XC soar software. I am having issues having xc soar recognize the data files like maps airspace and waypoints. I can download these data files directly and I had to use file transfer from my pc.
Any ideas on what I am doing wrong.

302 wind calculation by
5Z
The best way to get a good wind calculation while flying "straight",
such as on a final glide, descending through wind gradients and
shears, I do the following per conversation with Dave Ellis a few
years ago:
1. Turn 45 degrees off course and fly straight for 10-15 seconds.
2. Turn 90 degrees in...

50 years of space (Not related to soaring) by
Bill Daniels
I remember vividly a cold dark night in the New Mexico desert. It was
1957 and the Russians had just launched Sputnik. The USAF needed help
obtaining orbital data for the worlds first satellite.
I found myself, a 16 year old high school science club member, at a
theodolite staring at the star...

CAI 302 repair advise needed by
Jamey Jacobs
The adjustment knob on the lower left of my 302 came loose today. It
was still attached to the metal rod that goes into the instrument and
it appears that a set-screw came loose from the far end of the rod.
Has anyone had this same failure?
Does you know if I can easily repair this or does it...
