Long range Wx by
Paul kgyy
A while back there was info posted about where to get long range (3-5
days) cloud height predictions but the listed links are no longer in
service.
Anybody have a new source for this?

Could somebody point me to the official FAA document that describes the

FS: Child headsets from Sigtronics by
Kevin Chandler
I have two pairs. They work great. My kids just outgrew them. Make a real
offer on them (enough to warrant me packaging them up and shipping them) and
they will probably be yours.

Radar by
Hankal
Weather radar.
Which weather radar are you using for preflight?
NOAA, AOPA, local news facility?
Or any others?
I am sure there are many of them.

Staying current/proficient by
Kevin Clarke
Hi All,
Open question to folks, what strategies do you use to stay current or
better yet, proficient?
Check ride is right around the corner. I got signed off for the ride
today. So the currency question is in the back of my mind now. Most of
my flying is x-ctry (2/month) with some local scenic...

Tstorm avoidance by
PaulH
I have a fairly new IFR rating and am wondering how much help to
expect from ATC on Tstorm avoidance. Will they suggest re-routing or
do you have to request it based on visual, FSS, or stormscope
location?

Standby Vacuum? by
Mitty
Our club is looking at upgrading a couple of airplanes to Garmin 430s, etc.
It seems to me that standby vacuum would be a good thing to add, too.
1) Good idea? Do these systems really work?
2) Recommendations on type/brand/model?
TIA

Rolling a Non Aerobat 150 by
Tom Inglima
Spins have NEVER been in the private pilot PTS. The PTS (Practical Test
Standard) only has been in existence for around 20 years or so. The last
time spins were required for a Private Certificate was back in the early
1950's or maybe the late 1940's. Note that there is nothing that prevents...

Instrument checkride passed by
Terence Wilson
Everyone,
I haven't posted much here, but when I have, the responses have always
been educational. Hopefully my checkride account might prove useful to
someone else. Thanks for all the help.

My Approach and takeoff Videos by
A Lieberman
Awhile back I posted a program that would allow direct access to my hard
drive. I now found a website that is hosting all my videos that someone
may find interesting.
If you go to http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=mbo you will see the
listing of videos I uploaded.

GPS clearance puzzle by
Roy Smith
Apparently, if you file IFR HPN - MMU, you get a clearance which starts
"CMK CMK275R SAX039R SAX" (i.e. fly outbound on the CMK 275 until you
intercept the SAX 039, then fly that inbound to SAX). In the good old
days of 2 VOR receivers, this is trivial to fly; the radios don't know
or care that...

Wet, Bumpy, and Cold by
Andrew Gideon
Ha! I bet you thought that this was going to be some porn spam.
Well...perhaps not after the "Cold" bit grin.
I'd a very nice "getting feet wet" flight today. I was in the clouds for
roughly half the brief (two hour) (CDW-SWF-CDW) flight, I was in wet clouds
watching the thermostat drop, and...

Garmin 430W/530W first impressions by
Viperdoc[_4_]
Rode back with my friend in his turbine Bonanza after the installation of a
530W/430W. We had a good chance to play with both boxes during the trip. As
before, they are very intuitive and relatively easy to operate.
The screen write rate is a lot faster than previously, and the plane
position...

Down to minimum today by
W9MV
It's been just about a year since I had gotten my IFR ticket, and have over 250
hours since, about 25 hours in actual.
But, my personal minimums have been 1000 ft and 3 miles.
Today (Knoxville, TN) we had perfect conditions to safely fly in the soup. (NO
ICE) I got my instructor on board and we...

How to find LPV approaches? by
Paul Tomblin
None of the RNAV approaches at my local airport has LPV minimums. I want
to try out our club's nifty new 530W. I've tried a couple of LNAV+VNAV
approaches, and they aren't all that exciting because the mins aren't any
better than the LNAV-only minimums.
Is there a search engine that will find...
