FOK ILS by
M.E. Borner
Does anyone know the status of the ILS at FOK. It has not worked for
two years now. Up until recently it has been NOTAM'ed out of service.
Now the NOTAM is gone as it is published out of service. Publishing
this is a step in the wrong direction - we seem to be even further
away from getting the ILS...

Low and high altitude airways by
David Megginson
(K. Ari Krupnikov) writes:
I've never flown a jet airway (and probably never will, except on an
airliner), but here's a question. There are fewer J routes than V, and
they connect fewer navaids. So it can happen that your destination is

Gps with voice, "talking" GPS by
gyrobob
Does there exist a handheld GPS that talks?
A very nice lady here at work wants to give her hubby a gift for his
retirement, and she knows he likes GPSs, and she knows he likes the
voice feature. So far I have not found one for her that talks. The
only GPSs I know of that talk are permanently...

DP Question by
My name
Hello. I am an IFR student (near the end- Last stage check of a Part
141).
I have a question about a DP.
The GATEWAY FOUR DP from CPS (E. St. Louis) has a note "For Turbojet
aircraft only".
Can this DP be used (voluntarily) for piston a/c? On this particular DP,
the
altitudes only call...

ADF vs. StormScope antenna by
David Megginson
I'm curious about the technical differences between the antenna for a
StormScope or StrikeFinder and the antenna for an ADF. Are they
essentially the same thing, with different connectors?
Thanks, and all the best,
David

NACO charts - why have a reference circle? by
Bob Gardner
Their format allows them to depict navaids that would not be visible if the
whole thing was to scale....might have an IAF 20 miles out that would be off
the chart.

"Best forward speed" approaches by
Ben Jackson
A few questions about fast (by spamcan standards) approaches in busy
terminal environments:
1) Is there any point in practicing any "best forward speed" approaches
besides the ILS?
2) How fast is fast enough? Obviously 120kts is better than 90kts
(maybe 1.5m less time after you turn onto the...

FS: Child headsets from Sigtronics by
Kevin Chandler
I have two pairs. They work great. My kids just outgrew them. Make a real
offer on them (enough to warrant me packaging them up and shipping them) and
they will probably be yours.

GPS-Y GPS-Z database question by
John Clonts
KIWS (West Houston) has a GPS (RNAV) Y RWY 33 as well as a GPS(RNAV) Z RWY
33. My KLN-94 only shows one of them. Is there a way to tell which one it
is, without just a "mechanical" inspection of all the waypoints, bearings,
etc? Is this a limitation of the KLN-94, or a limitation of the...

FS: Soft Comm ATC-4Y 4 place portable intercom, $75.00 by

FS: Soft Comm ATC-4Y 4 place portable intercom, $75.00
Hands-Free Transmission with Voice Activated (VOX) Circuitry PREVENTS
"word-clipping". Exclusive "Y" Block allows either the pilot or

Identifying an intersection with options by
Ben Jackson
The HIO ILS 22 has a hold at COUVE which is defined by the intersection
of three things: the UBG 232, BTG 242 and the LOC. It's also the
UBG 232 @ 21.7 DME.
I was flying this in FS2002 in the 182RG, which only has 1 CDI on
the panel, but it does have a DME you can remote to the second
(invisible,...
