David Clark X11 Performance? by
Marco Leon
Anyone else notice that the new DC ad for the X11 is downplaying its
noise cancelling performance? No mention of a db rating in its huge
fall-out ad in Flying and the website only mentions the 17-22 db active
noise reduction in the FAQ section. And it only describes the passive
attenuation as...

Testing MoGas by
Jay Honeck
For those of us who use car gas, the advent of ethanol has been a real
pain. Although we don't test every tank full, we have used the
"water/gas/shake" test to verify that there is no ethanol present. I
find this method to be rather imprecise and quite a pain, since you
have to have water around...

Sometimes we get good press - today at noon EDT by
Maule Driver
A local instructor here in Durham NC landed on an interstate after
engine problems. Somehow, Paul caught the crest of the local news
coverage and has been interviewed and quoted positively all week.
Today he is being interviewed on the local NPR station's "State of
Things" show. Will be...

Uncontrolled fun by
Roy Smith
Had some fun this evening at IJD (Willimantic, CT). It's an uncontrolled
field. Big runway 9-27, smaller runway 18-36. AWOS is saying the wind is
something like 170 at 6 kts.
We're flying the GPS-9. Several calls on the CTAF come up empty, so we
decide to land straight in, taking the slight...

FM radio interference from planes by
rb
I bought a FM wireless transmitter to rebroadcast stuff from my PC
around the house. The only frequency I could find was 104.1 that was
clear without a station. But all of a sudden, now when I am
broadcasting my stuff, I pick up planes instead. How can this be? I
know it is from planes, as I hear...

Virgin Spaceships by

Has anyone seen anything about what Rutan is designing and building for
the Virgin space venture?
Either lift or space vehicles?
I saw an article in the newspaper this morning about the number of
deposits Virgin has taken.

Cheating the Reaper! by
JJS
An offer to fly an unfamiliar airplane was quickly accepted. In fact I jumped at the chance. How often does someone
let you strap into their high performance pride and joy and take her for a spin. But I got myself in deep, deep
trouble. I felt disoriented. Not nauseous, but not quite right,...

Gilsson antenna for GPSMAP 396.. by
Dan
I am toying with the idea of getting an aftermarket Gilsson antenna for
my GPSMAP 396 from www.gpsgeek.com. Has anyone had any expereince with
Gilsson antennas for aviation use? Supposedly they have better gain
than the Garmin units.

foldable bike by

Hello,
I'm about to buy a bike and am interested in a "foldable" bike.
I do not own a plane, just use a rental ( Cessna 172 SP ).
Has anyone thought about getting one of these to fit on the backseat of
172 ?
The one I found here : http://www.digitalgiftstore.com/th-367-r.html
is about 45 pounds...

A question on Airbus landings by
[email protected]
I've heard that in FBW Airbuses, if your sink rate on finals is low for
whatever reason, the computers might not consider it to be a landing at
all, and might actually prevent reverser deployment and even inhibit
brake application on the landing roll?
Thanks in advance,
Ramapriya

Starship prop blade by

Hi all. I mentioned some months ago that I have a propellor blade from a

How much do you think its worth? it occured to me to take it to the aero
mart at Osh, and sell it there.
Another though was to melt it down and cast some parts for my...
