Flying out of JFK by
Chuck
Hi,
I will be flying out of JFK on 18 April at 400P and returning to JFK on
30 April at 725P. I'm thinking of flying my Archer from Cleveland to
somewhere in the area (no, I don't want to go into JFK, ha ha) and
leaving her there for the couple of weeks. Any suggestions will be
appriciated. I...

AGM Batteries by
Dave Anderer
Any current thoughts on AGM batteries?
I tried a Concorde 35AXC about 8 years ago. It lasted about 30 months
for me. Wet batteries seem to last around 4 years.
However, there was some corrosion damage from the wet battery last
annual, and so I'm rethinking the AGM option. I might be willing...

Superior Millenium Cylinders not shipping by
John Clonts
The IO-520 out of our Cessna 210 is being overhauled by Custom
Airmotive in Tulsa. We had wanted to go with new Millenium cylinders,
but Superior has a halt on shipping them. A Superior rep said there
were some minor design changes that the FAA is requiring them to run-
test to assure life to...

Avmap 2000c onsale??? by
Peter Westerkamp-TBRR
I have been looking for a decent, nice size color screen GPS for under
$1,000. Just recently the Lowrance Avmap 2000c has gone on sale for as
little as $699! I called one of the dealers (Gulf Coast Avionics) just to
check if it is a sale or a "close out" and was assured it is just a
temporary...

Can all HSI's be slaved -- should they be? by
Dico
Hello,
I'm just reading up on HSI's and I notice some planes have HSI's that
are not slaved. I know this means i'm supposed to check it every 15
minutes or so to make sure the HSI and the compass jive. I guess I
should still do that even if it was slaved... but what I am wondering
is if you can...

Rubber stamp??? by
Tri-Pacer
I need one of those rubber stamps that say 'I certify that this aircraft has
been inspected in accordance with------".
They used to be advertised all over a few years ago, now I can't find one
anywhere.
Can someone give me a lead?
Thanks

$4.04 per gallon at Hilton Head by
Guy Byars
Just tanked up at Hilton Head SC. They charged me $3.85 per gallon of
100LL, and then added on a 5% "fuel tax". Works out to $4.04 per gallon.
Ouch, a new high.
Now that I am back home, I am going to top off with mogas... $2.10 seems
cheap now.

Cessna Muffler Shroud by
RST Engineering
I've exhausted all my sources for a Cessna muffler shroud without paying
through the nose to Cessna itself.
Cessna 182A used a muffler 0750130-12 with a shroud 07501030-13. My shroud
is pretty much toast, especially considering how it got thrashed about in
our little difficulty in Wyoming last...

inexpensive headsets by
Randy
I bought a pair of those "Why pay more" headsets offered in the back
pages of AOPA and Flying about 10 years ago. They're still working
fine and are perfect for the occasional passengers in the back seat.

Mean Time to Failure by
O. Sami Saydjari
As I reading through my aircraft logs, I noticed several replacements of
the Directional Gyro and Turn Coordinator. The plane is a 1978 Piper
Turbo Arrow 3. Is is normal to need to replace these things every 4-5
years?
Does anyone keep statistics or even projections for the mean time
between...

Mooney info by

Seems like I never have any good info to offer but always seem to find a
question or 10.
I'm a long time PA28 and C172 / C182 driver and I'm looking for something
faster with a little longer legs. I've never flown a Mooney but I like the
style, performance and gph numbers and some of the older...

Reliability of O-300 by
Captain Wubba
Hello. Looking at buying another airplane (I tried cutting out the
middleman and just flushing $100 bills down the toilet, but it isn't
quite the same). I'm currently considering early-mid 60s Cessna 172s,
powered by the 145 HP Continental O-300, and would like to hear from
any owners of these...

Me Too! Me Too! by
Carl Orton
Well, I didn't want to infringe upon Dave Buckles' time in the spotlight,
but I got my first plane on Monday the 1st.
It's a '67 Skyhawk, 1570 hrs TTAF, 200 SMOH, with new (well, 2 yrs) Garmin
VFR stack. Pristine. Glossy original paint, and excellent original interior.
Ancillaries have been...

Anyone wrapped their yokes in leather? by
Jay Honeck
We've got a bag full of leather scraps, left over from our new interior job
last fall. I would like to wrap our yokes with it, so that they match the
seats and throttle cover.
Anyone ever done this? I don't want to just wind the stuff around and have
it look like crap in a few months.
Should I...

Vertical card compasses by
Dan Luke
If you have one, how do you like it? Do you ever notice that it does not
return to the same indication when the airplane returns to the same
heading (hysteresis error)? IOW, if you turn from 090 to 180 and back to
090 according to the HI, would your VCC come all the way back to 090, or
would it...

Rules on what can be in a hangar by
Brett Justus
Our airport commission has talked about going around and looking in
hangars to crack down on "volatile" liquids being stored within. I
think mainly they're concerned about people keeping fuel for use in
heaters, where there is a more likely ignition source in addition to
the liquids being...

#5 cylinder not firing by
David R.
We have a 1979 Cessna 182RG with 1350 hours since overhaul. 6 weeks ago,
we began to notice the engine to be rough on the right magneto during
run-up. Over two weeks, it became increasingly difficult to burn it off by
leaning during the run-up, until one day when it became impossible. ...

Sales tax due from seller? by
Nathan Young
Hello. I live in Illinois. I am in the process of selling my
Cherokee 180. Does anyone know if there are sales tax implications
for the seller? Does it matter if I sell the plane in-state,
out-of-state, or to a corporation?
When I purchased, I bought the plane from an individual who lived...

Yellow tags by
Mike Z.
I am still filtering out all the usual paperwork that comes with a previously loved airplane. You know, the usual receipts for 12
new batteries dating back to WWII etc.
Anyway, there are lots of yellow tags stapled in the logs and almost as many in various envelopes.
I was scanning the logs onto...
