To Pawnee or not to Pawnee...that is the question... by
Travis Beach
Our club has a Piper Pawnee 235hp in excellent condition.
We just spent $35000 five years ago to completely overhaul
her...new fabric, new engine, anything that needed
to be replaced was...
Heres the rub...we are in the middle of a new two place
acquisition with the club making a decision about...

WinPilot Themal marker by
Peter[_5_]
I am using WinPilot Advanced and wondered if it is possible to mark a thermal
waypoint on the fly. Reason I ask is that in a recent contest I flew through a
good thermal a few miles from the next turnpoint. I made the turnpoint and
thought I had flown back to where the lift was. Checking my igc...

Batteries (again) - 2 Main Batts plus Tail Fin Batt wiring/switching by
Neil Allison
Hi,
Time to dust off a perennial topic ;)
I looked through the archives and read Darryl Ramm's battery
presentation. Not an exhaustive search but I didn't find an answer to
my question.
At present we have two (fused) 12V 7Ah "main batteries" connected to
the Master switch via an SPDT...

ASW 20 BL polar file by
Steve Leonard
I think what Bert was saying was that a little lift
on the glide, and your 20 will match a 20B. Or a little
sink on the run, and your 20B will fall behind a 20.
I would start off with the stock 20 polar, or maybe
shift it better by 2 or 3 MPH for the same sink rates.
Fly this, and see how your...

ContestID67
My wife loves animals and was watching the documentary "Life of
Birds" (details below) which she had gotten from NetFlix (http://
netflix.com).
On Disk 1, Episode #2 is "Mastery of Flight". Chapter 3 is entitled
"Flying on Thermals" and has a very good sequence of David in the back
of a glider...

High on Final, Summary; was Polar with spoilers extended? by

Don't miss out an a VERY important lesson I nearly

Grob 103 weighing by
[email protected]
We are going to have our Grob 103 weighed next week. In the flight
manual it says "Level means 600:24 incidence board" set up
horizontial on the top of the rear fuselage. I plead
ignorance....what is a 600:24 incidence board?
Thanks

Contribute To The OLC! by
P. Corbett
People
There are few entities that have added as much momentum to soaring than
the OLC has. It is run by volunteers and I think we owe them our support
so that it can continue. There is now a "Support the OLC" banner on the
OLC /USA home page. Please do your part.

Safety Finish Scoring by
Steve Leonard
Karl Streideck worte:
'Extending the 20:1 minimum slope out another 5 miles
will not give any advantage because the scoring formula
uses a speed of 60mph from the safety fix home, while
most gliders would actually be doing 40%-80% faster
than this. There is also the time 'penalty' incurred
due to...

My 302 and PDA are no longer on speaking terms by

On Saturday, my 302 and my PDA (5450) stopped talking to one another.
They've been together for about 18 months without any issues.
It started when the PDA complained about low battery power. I thought
that odd, but I still had GPS data. I could see that the PDA wasn't
charging by the absence of...
