Any Glider Pilot Connections with Beale AFB in California by Paul Remde
Hi, This is completely off-topic, but I thought there might be a chance that a glider pilot would have a connection with Beale Air Force Base in California. My father served in the U.S. Air Force in a missile silo on or near Beale in the early 1960s. We're visiting that area with him this week...

New gliderport opportunity in North Carolina by [email protected]
Dear Soaring Enthusiasts, Rhonda and I have been running GLIDERBOOKS now for over 12 years, and the company is healthy and continuing to grow. We are interested in taking things to the next level, by purchasing an airport and opening our own flight training school that would concentrate on...

Ventus C vs LS6 by Marshall Woodford
I’m looking for a cross county glider. The Ventus C comes with 17.5 and 15 winglets. It also has factory tips. The LS6 has low hours and the wings and horizontal stab was refinished and painted. The fuselage is in good condition and original. Both have Cobra trailers and the Ventus’s...

Pawnee Tow Release by Bob Youngblood
I am currently rebuilding another Pawnee and converting from a spray plane to a tow plane. Extensive work has been completed on this bird, and I am about ready to install the tow hook. This is the third Pawnee that I have converted and I have used the hopper dump handle as the tow release handle...

A wooden control stick grip by Tom BravoMike
The grip in my 1984 Ventus is worn out and a bit sticky. I have always thought it would be nice to have a wooden one, e.g.: https://www.cps-parts.com/catalog/elpages/taeakwoodgripstandard.php Anyone has tried something like that? Are they much bigger/thicker than the factory ones? BTW, which...

Skysight by Dan Marotta
Looking at today's forecast for Moriarty, NM, USA for 1300 local time brings up a question.* I've always considered the thermal height, cloud base, etc., to be MSL altitudes.* Indeed, looking directly at Moriarty shows 11,500' which is reasonable given the time and date. Moving a bit west,...

Anybody know what happened to these HP-14s? by Steve Leonard[_2_]
So, there was this auction of "seized property" about three years ago. I was thinking about going, but talked myself out of it, as I figured I would end up with 4 HP-14 projects to bring home (Sorry, I was not going to bid on the last one. Even I have limits!). Anybody know where they went? 4...

2 Attachment(s) LAK17A Canopy Support Tube by Jimmyz
I was inspecting/adjusting my canopy this week and discovered that the canopy support tube (main shaft that connects canopy to fuselage in the nose) has a severe crack at the base. I was wondering if anyone is aware of another LAK17A (salvaged) that I might be able to find a replacement tube. I've...

I just noticed by Dan Marotta
On Skysight, when you hover your cursor over any location, a readout of the selected data is displayed. Is this a new development or was I just late in noticing?* BTW, I like it! -- Dan, 5J

Sailplane repair recommendations by [email protected]
Hi - A friend of mine had his quite-sweet LS4 damaged in a tornado last September in Minnesota (no mud slides or earthquakes for us, no sireee). He is looking for a quality repair. The damage is non-structural. Anyone have a strong recommendation? He has seen the ads in the back of soaring but...

L-23 Loose Horizontal Stabilizer by Chris Snyder
We just noticed some play on our club L-23. It was detected in the stick while on tow with a forward CG. Does anyone have experience with a horizontal stab being loose on an L-23? The elevator auto-hookups have large pins, but it seems like there's no way to really tighten...

The rudder on my D2b has become very stiff on its hinges during this season.. I disconnected the cables at the rudder horn, and it's clear the problem is in the rudder not elsewhere in the control circuit. Removed mylar seals without effect.
