AnywhereWX??? by mtmueller
After considerable research, I have pretty much written off adding weather to my Garmin 530 right now. It looks like the GDL-49 just doesn't do what I want, and is too susceptable to interference for efficient delivery of detailed weather, and you have to add another damned VHF antenna (which would...

Piper Wing Lighting by Jessewright8
Has anyone had any experience with the 'skylight' brand of wing lighting? I have never heard of it until today when I saw it in a flyer for Cherokee Pilots Assoc. I have been looking at wingtip lighting... but it's pricey. The skylight lighting is mounted into the leading edge, rather than the...

Paint shops in Atlanta area ? by Mike
Due to some peeling clear coar, slightly thinning base coat in a couple of places, and some recent minor hail damage (with payment from insurance) it looks like we're due for a paint job on our Archer. Can anyone suggest any good shops (or ones to stay away from) in the Atlanta area? All...

Fuel Injection and Variable Timing by Charles Talleyrand
I was curious how much fuel injection and variable spark timing reduces fuel consumption and increase power in an airplane engine. Auto engine data does not help because auto engines are run over a wide range of conditions, wereas an aviation engine typically runs at cruise power and can...

Airtex Interior Refurbish - Day 48 by Mike Spera
Day 48 (The Seats) Just completed the seats. Not as tough or as time consuming as I thought it would be. Maybe 10 hours total time. As I said in the previous installment, I reused the rear foam. The rear seat backs rolled back on without a hitch. Minimal adjusting to get it to look just right. I...

WARNING -- AOPA credit card holders. The credit card company is trying to change the rules in mid-game. Read the statement sent to you by MBNA. by Chuck
Hi everyone, I recently received a notification in the mail from MBNA. This is the bank behind the "AOPA Visa Card" -- the one prominently advertised on the AOPA website front page! MBNA is proposing ten different changes to the credit card agreement between us. Well, maybe proposing is too...

IOF 240 Engine-Would it run if the batteries fail? by Piperflyer
Liberty XL2 has the Continetal IOF 240 with FADEC. Would the engine run if the batteries failed? It does not have a magneto. Would the ignition system run off of the alternator? The salesman at Sun-n-fun had no clue. Does anyone know?

No Gyro and ILS approach with ATC COMS - Video by A Lieberma[_2_]
I did two approaches today, each in separate videos. First one is an ILS approach into HKS Jackson Hawkins airport in VMC conditions. Purpose of this approach was to "warm up" for my next approach which was a no gyro approach into KJAN Jackson MS. Both videos contain ATC communications as well...

AeroStar Fuel system? by Al G[_1_]
Could someone fill me in on the Aerostar fuel system? The one in question is a 602P. IIRC, Ted Smith designed it as a "Leave it alone and burn all the fuel in the airplane" type system. But wasn't there a lawsuit over one years ago? Al G

FAA advisory voids IFR certification for GPS's!!! by Prime
I'm surprised nobody has posted about this. Many GPS panel models are "no longer" IFR certified! Anybody else affected by this, posted on AOPA web site? It's courtesy your FAA! http://www.aopa.org/whatsnew/newsitems/2007/070524gps.html We have a Garmin 300XL, which is one of the units...

A title problem, but I want to buy. How handle? by Michael Horowitz
I located a plane I'd like to buy; unfortunately somewhere along the way the FAA didn't get some paperwork and the current owner didn't get clear title. Is there anything I can do to 'buy' the a/c and start working on it, or do I have to sit on my hands? - Mike

annual - hartzell AD by Doug Vetter
Hi all, With the recent topics on Annuals hitting the group, I figured I'd relate my own, indulge myself in a short rant, and ask a question of you. Just got the call from our A&P today and our 172 w/180HP Avcon Conversion came through the annual in pretty good shape. Unfortunately, we did...

Nashua Festival, Avidyne and WSI by Doug Vetter
Hi all, Went to the Nashua, NH (KASH) Aviation Festival today, which was pretty well organized. I'm a Daniel Webster Alum so it was nice to see not only the displays they sponsored but also all the buildings my tuition built. :-) The festival is largely a static display, which is nice because...

Hey folks, I've been sitting here thinking about our upcoming get together in OSH, and I realized that not only don't we know what each other looks like, but -- worse! -- we don't know what each other's planes look like! This seems to be a major failing of this newsgroup, if you ask me. I...
