Interesting read, John. I'm kinda surprised that those folks that got
stuck on the return flight would attempt a long XC this time of year
without an IFR rating. Of course, I'm assuming that trip *was* a long
XC for them and not just a short hop from their home field. Before I
got my instrument ticket I was timid about flying out to Cape Cod & the
Vineyard/Nantucket from my (then) home field just north of Providence
RI during the summer because of the often rapid wx change. And that was
only a 75nm trip.
