Garmin 250XL Question

I hope y'all can help me figure out something.

How do I save user routes in my Garmin 250XL gps/comm? I know it can be
done, because the previous owner had several set up. I can edit them and
activate them, but once I switch off the master, they're gone. It's not the
wiring, because, as I mentioned, the PO had several saved.

The only thing the manual says is that you have to install a user data card
(which the PO nor I have), which will bring up a "Save or Replace User Data"
screen.

So, it boils down to 2 question:

1. How do I get the "Save or Replace User Data" screen if I don't have a
non-Jeppeson NavData memory card?

2. If I can get to this screen, and I say "Replace", is it going to wipe
out my freshly-updated Jepp data?
