Which came first, Field Hockey (called "Hockey" in the UK) or "Ice" Hockey?
The one that came first should be the one without a qualifier.

I don't have to like Bush and Cheney (Or Kerry, for that matter) to love
America

As far as "ice hockey" goes, there are other forms of hockey (street, field,

Ambiguous. How is one able to distinguish which type field surface is
being used? You might have meant "Astro Turf Field Hockey" or more
likely "Grass Field Hockey"... or even "Out Standing In Their Field
Hockey"

A bitter Bruins fan

When one lives in a part of the world where outside temperatures cannot
support year-round ice, one improvises.

As a result, field hockey and indoor hockey were created. Most likely
"ice" was added to hockey to eliminate confusion.

Oh, and I almost forgot tonsil hockey, usually played by teenagers in lust.

you'll need to set your Outlook Express to post in your preferred cyrillic
encoding (Tools/Options/Send/International Settings), either KOI-8 or
Win-1251 in order for it show up properly, but changing it will also default
your e-mail encoding to that and will annoy the heck out of your
non-russian recepients by notifying them of non-english encoding every time
they open your e-mail.

Don't listen to HECTOP - he won't teach you any good :-)

Just go to Format-Encoding and chose either Cyrillic (KOI8-R) or Cyrillic
(Windows) when composing your message. Unicode will work for most people too.

The one that came first gracefully abdicated its name and is now called "Bandy"
(except in Russian where its called ... "hockey with ball" :-)
