There's a reason airlines won't buy parts from engines or aircraft that were immersed in salt water. |

I liked that part in the Cape Cod newspaper article where the witnesses "thought it was going to hit the jetty and explode". I wonder just how much ordinance this guy was carrying. It was an explosive jetty, part of the border defense against windmills near Cape Cod. - Andrew |

. .. I think he meant "ordnance". I know what he meant. Sorry you missed the smiley in my post. I'd make it bigger, but that would mean posting in HTML. Guess you'll just have to look more carefully next time. |

In another vein, does this border defense protect against wind*bags* too? Like certain senior senators from MA known to frequent the Cape Cod area? |

Well if a car goes careening out of control while you're walking down the street and it looks like it could hit you, would you at that particular instant be more concerned with yourself or the driver? This wasn't a car careening out of control, it was a plane crashing. I'm aware of that, thanks. But when something comes unexpectedly toward your general direction, either horizontally, vertically, or both, it's likely to get your full undivided attention and a flight instinct to get the hell away until to you have time to figure out what's going on and whether or not you are danger. And yes, if I saw a plane crashing, I would be more concerned about those on board than it falling on me. Would you? How do you know that others on the ground/water in this actual accident weren't as concerned as you? I'm glad that you feel so superior. I posted this story because I thought it was a positive one, plane has engine fail, but pilot walks away from ocean ditching, noone hurt. I thought the picture taken just as the plane ditched into the ocean was especially interesting, if not rare. I should have figured someone on this group would spin it negative. |

I liked that part in the Cape Cod newspaper article where the witnesses "thought it was going to hit the jetty and explode". I wonder just how much ordinance this guy was carrying. More misinformation that people pick up from Hollywood. Although they kind of know that real automobiles do not explode when they crash, people are less familiar with airplanes. They learn from the movies that airplanes explode when they crash, even when they are out of fuel. Think about that when someone blows off yet more Hollywood idiocy with "It's only a movie." Who said anything about being out of fuel? People need to learn from Hollywood to know that planes can and do explode and burn after crashing? I guess the NTSB investigators have watched a lot of Hollywood films this year alone to make up these Hollywood plots: http://www.ntsb.gov/ntsb/brief.asp?e...02X00496&key=1 http://www.ntsb.gov/ntsb/brief.asp?e...13X00294&key=1 http://www.ntsb.gov/ntsb/brief.asp?e...13X00194&key=1 http://www.ntsb.gov/ntsb/brief.asp?e...10X00039&key=1 http://www.ntsb.gov/ntsb/brief.asp?e...30X01903&key=1 http://www.ntsb.gov/ntsb/brief.asp?e...10X01829&key=1 Sshhhh!! Don't let the damn investigators tell anyone know that airplanes have exploded when they crash this year!! Shhh! By the way, nearly everything that people here in the Philippines know about America they learn from watching American sit-coms.... And Americans wonder why people from other countries look at them funny. Let's hope they don't read NTSB reports! Imagine how silly they would think "Americans" are then! And if "Americans" are so dumb, who is judging an entire country's population on a few TV sitcoms! It's only a movie, indeed. |

No hope for that - too much self interest among the decision makers (deciders?) Do you think perhaps we can get Washington to quit using Senators who've been automotively immersed in salt water? |
