Cheers Andy If you touch down just a bit sideways, the center of gravity, being ahead of the main gear, will pull the aircraft in line (assuming nosewheel aircraft). The mass tries to keep going, and the main gear create a drag force behind and to one side of the Cg. That's the advantage of the nosewheel. A tailwheel aircraft, on the other hand, will want to turn around and roll backwards.
