If the continued popularity of satellite fields such as Appleton
continue to attract visitors who want to be close enough to Oshkosh yet have the ability to come and go on their own schedules. This is a phenomenon that I truly don't understand. I have met many people who have flown their aircraft all the way across the country, only to stop 20 miles short of the main event and land off-field. Dunno if it's fear of the Fisk Approach, or what, but take it from me, a guy who spent his first 16 OSH fly-ins staying off-field -- there is simply NO comparison between the two experiences. When you're staying at Wittman Field, you are immersed in the experience, as opposed to watching it. In many ways, if you haven't stayed on the field, with your airplane, you haven't been to AirVenture. -- Jay Honeck Iowa City, IA Pathfinder N56993 www.AlexisParkInn.com "Your Aviation Destination" |
