Default Passenger describes hearing 'boom' before Delta flight makes emergency landing due to engine failure

How far can a MD-88 fly with one engine? All the way to the scene of the crash.

I saw the video. The nose cone had fallen off, the engine was not running but
was turning slowly, and the first bearing visible on the turbine shaft was
brilliantly hot.
