Scams occur in every corner and attempts at Wings & Wheels classifieds are not exempt. I feel it's important to make you aware of the scam that surfaced yesterday. We received over a dozen calls regarding a person who calls himself Michael Diaz (no doubt not his real name). If you have an active classified on Wings & Wheels do not engage with this person. Below is a copy of his scam in action. Sean Franke The scam: I got your mail and the contents well understood, after thorough deliberation with my client, he finally accepted your price for the glider, after considering the pictures and interest in the glider.I have just finalised payment issues on the glider with my customer and we are ready to go ahead with the transaction. i was informed by my customer that we have a check which was made out for a previous order, but the amount on it is much higher than you are supposed to be paid. However, I have also talked to the customer and he has instructed us to carry on with his check, that means that payment will get to you in cashier check of $84,000 which is a refund payment of a cancelled order earlier made by my customer for a previous glider but yours looks better and well maintained. The condition involved in this transaction is that; 1. You are required to deduct cost of your glider $64,000. when payment gets to you and refund balance $20,000 to my customers Agent ,for him to be able to offset Prepaid shipping charges and other expenses. 2. This refund must be sent back to my customers Agent immediately you receive the Cashier's Check. 3. After payment (Cashier Check) has reached you and balance sent back to the Agent, The agent will come over for the pick up and transport to a prepaid shipper to be shipped to my customer, while title papers and other necessary documents will be handed over to my agent at the time of pick up. Please Confirm this above conditions and provide your Full names, address and phone number for check payment to be delivered to you via courier services . thanks Michael diaz Yeah M Diaz contacted me too. He said he needed more info for his clients. Told him to have his client contact me personally. It was an obvious scam. Two years or so ago he also contacted me about a Trig transponder that was advertised on another site. Scum 101. |

He has also contacted me regarding our glider for sale. Suspecting it was a scam by the content of the message I played along giving him a bogus snail mail address to send the check, which was going to be certified for $15K more than our asking price. A couple of days later I let him know that we had a small snag while flying the glider. Told him the modulator valve had failed and that we could put in a replacement valve for no charge but if he wanted the updated valve that allowed him to interface with his flux capacitor more easily it would be $300. He said he was going to check with his client and then let me know. I am still waiting.

My game is to scam the scammers. I play along and they always send a huge check by usps priority that I add to my collection. I tease them or play stupid to waste their time. I have over 20 fake checks in my collection. I figure it costs then some $ to send me the check so why not.

On one occasion I kept the woman on the 'phone for 14mins, until I could no longer suppress my mirth. I used an assumed querulous voice, and typed everything she told me (but only Enter when she finally twigged that I hadn't) - but into Notepad rather than at a Command prompt (Mac users: YMMV). Amazing how furious she was when I reverted to normal voice, and she realised that *she* was the dupe! Solidarity comrades: fight back! J. |

I once had a scammer on the phone for 2 1/2 hrs (the "your social security number has been suspended due to fraudulent activity" scam). Some guy with a really thick Indian accent, posing as an agent with a very western name, no doubt calling from a call center in India. |
