Great example, I don't think. France was a despotic absolute monarchy,
with no interest in the colonies being free as such. France wanted the
British out of the picture so it could grab land unopposed.

If France was so interested in freedom , how come it took another decade
and a half for the Bourbons to be overthrown?

France then suffered many more years of dictatorship, and is still ruled
by one of the most corrupt administrations in the western world.
