Replace the standard GE 4509 with a Q4509 (Quarts Halogen). They're usually about $25, instead of $10. I haven't run anything but Q4509s since '98. They're better, and last longer -- but they still suck. I guess you could always install some of those landing lights that mount in the leading edges of the wings. It's a shame that 235's can't use the ones that mount in the wingtips. I'm sure someone must make a kit for the Cherokees. --- Jay -- __!__ Jay and Teresa Masino ___(_)___ http://www2.ari.net/jmasino ! ! ! http://www.oceancityairport.com http://www.oc-adolfos.com |

The skytec lights can be used on a 235 or Six with the fiberglass tip tanks.
They get installed in the leading edge of the wing, inboard of the tip. I have them on my PA-32. They cost me a tad over $1K to install in 1997. Any trouble with leakage into the wing structure? I've got a friend with a Bellanca, which has a similar leading edge landing light. Water infiltration through the landing light structure is a potentially major problem area with the Bellanca's wooden wing. I would suspect the bulbs last considerably longer, so far from the source of vibration -- true? -- Jay Honeck Iowa City, IA Pathfinder N56993 www.AlexisParkInn.com "Your Aviation Destination" |

I changed two landing light bulbs in the 9 years I had my Super Viking...
Never had water infiltration... I simply used a thin bead of non hardening marine caulk around the perimeter of the plexiglass... denny "Jay Honeck" wrote I would suspect the bulbs last considerably longer, so far from the source of vibration -- true? -- Jay Honeck Iowa City, IA Pathfinder N56993 www.AlexisParkInn.com "Your Aviation Destination" |

I haven't had any problems with leaks around the lights. I get much more water
in around the gas tanks and in the lap joint in wing skins than I do around the lights. I've only replaced one bulb in the wings in 700+ hours since installing them. I have the skytec version of the pulse light on them, which is turned on for every flight. In the same amount of time, I've gone through a half dozen nose light lamps, and that one is only on during approach at night. Hell, at the cost of bulbs, you'll pay back a goodly portion of the installation costs in a matter of years.
