$500 to $550. The RMD HID kit is cheaper, and STC'd for Jay's Cherokee. I installed the kits in my Skylane, with an easy field approval using that STC as the basis. -jav |

Yep, the RMD HID kit, half the price, STC'd for your Cherokee. http://www.rmdaircraft.com/ Bob DeBorde (RMD) had the patience of a german elf answering all of my questions before I finally bought the kits for my Skylane. They work great, and they are super bright. Very pleased with the product and the service. Damn. Oh well -- I'll take those extra 34 gallons of gas over a landing light, any day! :-) -- Jay Honeck Iowa City, IA Pathfinder N56993 www.AlexisParkInn.com "Your Aviation Destination" |

George; Jay,
Try two one in each wing. I have a Q4509 in the right wing aimed slightly down so it lights the runway when on final and a 4509 in the left wing for taxiing. It is aimed ahead with the tail down. Works great! Michelle G.R. Patterson III wrote: Jay Masino wrote: Replace the standard GE 4509 with a Q4509 (Quarts Halogen). If you do this, be aware that the beam will reach further, but it will not be as wide. Some people have problems with this. I put the halogen in my Maule and don't like them much at all. They're great on short final, but don't illuminate anything useful much once the tail's down. Javier,
I have installed these on a clients Arrow. Nice kit. It took about 8 hours total to install the wiring and drill the new tip caps to fit the existing holes in the wings. Works great! I think that mine are not aimed differently, but I could be wrong. Mine seem to have aluminum mirrors over the lights to reflect light on the ground while taxiing. I had a halogen in one side and normal bulb in the other, but made the mistake of putting in another halogen when the plain one burned out. The skytec lights can be used on a 235 or Six with the fiberglass tip tanks.
They get installed in the leading edge of the wing, inboard of the tip. I have them on my PA-32. They cost me a tad over $1K to install in 1997. Jay Masino wrote: Jay Honeck wrote: Replace the standard GE 4509 with a Q4509 (Quarts Halogen). They're usually about $25, instead of $10. I haven't run anything but Q4509s since '98. They're better, and last longer -- but they still suck. I guess you could always install some of those landing lights that mount in the leading edges of the wings. It's a shame that 235's can't use the ones that mount in the wingtips. I'm sure someone must make a kit for the Cherokees. --- Jay -- __!__ Jay and Teresa Masino ___(_)___ http://www2.ari.net/jmasino ! ! ! http://www.oceancityairport.com http://www.oc-adolfos.com -- --Ray Andraka, P.E. Any trouble with leakage into the wing structure? I've got a friend with a Bellanca, which has a similar leading edge landing light. Water infiltration through the landing light structure is a potentially major problem area with the Bellanca's wooden wing. I would suspect the bulbs last considerably longer, so far from the source of vibration -- true? -- Jay Honeck Iowa City, IA Pathfinder N56993 www.AlexisParkInn.com "Your Aviation Destination" |

I changed two landing light bulbs in the 9 years I had my Super Viking...
Never had water infiltration... I simply used a thin bead of non hardening marine caulk around the perimeter of the plexiglass... denny "Jay Honeck" wrote I would suspect the bulbs last considerably longer, so far from the source of vibration -- true? -- Jay Honeck Iowa City, IA Pathfinder N56993 www.AlexisParkInn.com "Your Aviation Destination" |

I haven't had any problems with leaks around the lights. I get much more water
in around the gas tanks and in the lap joint in wing skins than I do around the lights. I've only replaced one bulb in the wings in 700+ hours since installing them. I have the skytec version of the pulse light on them, which is turned on for every flight. In the same amount of time, I've gone through a half dozen nose light lamps, and that one is only on during approach at night.
