I absolutely agree. Airfield names are a fitting epitaph for those
individuals who have made a significant contribution to aviation
through technical innovation and/or heroic deed. (What was the
reasoning behind Reagan Intl.? Somnambulant Intl. may have been just
as appropriate.)

I cringe every time I hear "John Wayne tower ..." broadcast. I prefer
to refer to an airport on the radio by its city name, or anything
other than the name of an actor. "Santa Ana tower" was used in the
'70s and still works fine for me. "Orange County tower" works too.

In the end, I suppose the responsibility for naming airports falls on
the shoulders of its owner.
