That is to say, the memory value of Pearl Harbor has exceeded its
historic importance for the past 50 years, but is now declining rapidly. In their times, "Remember the Maine!" and "Remember the Alamo!" rang with the same resonance that "Remember Pearl Harbor!" does now.
