the 182. It was just the 180 with a nosewheel. In '61 the 185 was

structural beef up was included. In '62 the 182 was widened 4 inches.
In '63 the 205 was introduced, it was the 210 with fixed gear, although
at the time it was called the Super Skylane. In '64 Cessna beefed up
the 205 and created the 206. In '65 the 205 was dropped. In '66 the
185 got the 520 for 285 HP as an option, standard in '67.

Bleargh!

So was the 185 ever widened? When did it get 6 seats, or did it always
have 6 seats in certain guises? In the same size plane as a 180? Or as a
later 182? 'eck!

The 185's rear seats are basically kid seats. It's pretty tight in the
back, not like a 206. 206 is more popular with guys hauling people or
freight off average strips. The 185 is better for unimproved strips.
And the 185 is for real pilots.

Both the 180 and 185 have narrower cabins than the 182. Neither the
180 or 185 have a rear full height cargo door (something the 206 has).
But the 206 doesn't have a copilot door. Both the 180 and 185 have the
"jack screw" trim (on the floor) as opposed to a "trim tab". Both the
180 and 185 have manual flaps. The models evolved over the years,
bigger better engines, slightly differnt wings and modern (basic six)
panels.

Early Cessna 182's were narrower than the later models, and the early
182's had the "jack screw" trim and manual flaps. The early 182's were
a nosewheel version of the 180, but after they changed the 182 to the
modern config, it got a wider cabin, different trim and electric flaps
so the differences grew over time.

The 206 is larger and will hold large cargo. It is substantially
easier to load and unload. It has a nosewheel of course. If fitted
with the STC's copilot door, it is the most desirable small
charter/freight airplane up north.

The P206 does. The U206 does not.

Well, like the 182 it had an option for those jokes they call childs seats.

The 180 and the 185 always were and are the same size. Now, they do
have some pretty nice extended baggage areas that can be installed. As
a matter of fact Selkirk Aviation just got an extended baggage for the
wide body 182's STC'd. I'll be doing that to mine, it goes back from
the current rear bulkhead 34 inches.

I remember spending some time in the back of a 185 as a skinny 12 year old
kid. It was tight with two us back there and the seat was very low. Two
adults would be a real squeeze.
