And if you, could, tell some of your stories about CGX (those that have
flown
there) it has bee a dream of mine since I was 5 and no because of that

baby
Daley, I can't fulfill that. Neither could other pilots I would imagine.

You go get 'em, Trace. You (and other folks your age) are the only hope
Chicago has for a bright, "Daley-less" future.

I was fortunate enough to fly into Meigs several times, and it was memorable
each time. After having flown that final approach to RWY 36 countless times
in "Flight Simulator," it felt curiously familiar -- in a surreal way -- to
be sliding down that glideslope "for real" to a gentle touchdown on that
beautiful peninsula. The skyscrapers on the left, and the deep blue of
Lake Michigan on the right, made for a picture perfect arrival.

And, of course, the time spent in downtown Chicago was priceless. Taking my
kids to Ed Debevec's for an "abusive lunch" was worth every penny we paid in
landing fees. (My 13 year old son, Joey, STILL talks about that flight...)

I still cringe involuntarily every time I think about bulldozers ripping up
that gorgeous, one-of-a-kind facility. :-(

The monster Daley must be crushed. In five years you can vote -- use that
power wisely, and influence everyone you can to do the same thing.

Take care,

Finally happened yesterday! I got some junk mail from an outfit in Chicago! I
got right on the computer and sent them a polite letter to the effect that I
don't do business with Chicago firms since Daley trashed Meigs.

I've done them both too.

Except in real life the framerate doesn't drop to 5 fps as you turn
towards the skyscrapers...

Sadly, there's no way for me to be sure of this.

I flew into Meigs first in 1991 after a trip to Oshkosh. Like Jay, I had
flown many times on
flight simulator into Meigs, long before I had even taken a flying lesson.
That landing was a
thrill of my life, on par with my first solo flight. My friend (fellow
pilot and co-owner of our 172)
had the time of our lives in Chicago that weekend.

Since that first time, my friend and I, and my wife and I ,made many trips
to Meigs.
Each trip was memorable. I mourn the loss of Meigs like all.
I feel very fortunate to have flown into one of the most wonderful flying
destinations, and I
truly feel sorry for those who weren't able to.

I no longer travel to Chicago not because of a protest to Mayor Daley. I
just can't figure out a
practical way to fly there and get to downtown. And, of course, flying to
another airport would
be such a letdown.

Now I have a young boy, and I feel bad that I will never be able to share
that particular joy with
him. I envy Jay being able to fly there with his family.

-Jeff

P.S. I enjoy hearing other peoples stories of flying into Meigs. Perhaps it
will ease the pain.

Can I land my Husky Seaplane on the lake at Chicago. Maybe at one of
the yacht harbors?

I guess you never heard of the Museum Of Science And Industry. It belongs to
the Chicago Park District, which is also under the iron fist of Daley.

They have a submarine and they aren't afraid to use it!
