... -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- From: "Cecil E. Chapman" Why does the press refer to emergency landings as 'crashes',,, if they were truly uncontrolled as the word "crash" implies, there would have more likely been fatalities rather than minor injuries... grrr :-) Sensationalism. They can be educated, though. Our local station used to refer to every plane that didn't land at the airport as a "crash". Between calls, email, and letters, I must have explained to them 50 times that it's not always a crash. Finally, either I, or someone got through to them because now a crash is a crash, an emergency landing is an emergency landing. Just recently a Cessna (150 series) came down in a field and flipped over when the nose wheel bogged down in the snow. The report was something like this: "A single engine Cessna airplane made an emergency landing at a Berkshire farm today after the engine suffered a loss of power. Both pilots were shaken but unhurt when the front wheel sunk in the snow and flipped the plane over as it was coasting to a stop". (insert picture of inverted plane in the snow with a few cops standing around with coffee and donuts) Really not bad as news stories go Hm, so when a car flips over, can that still be called a crash, or has the driver just performed an "emergency parking"? ![]() --Gary |
